    Default Schick Plus Platinum blades?

I used my last Schick Plus Platinum blade Tuesday so I opened a new pack of English made Wilkinson Sword Classic blades to shave last night. The Schick blades were MUCH sharper than the Wilkinson blades.

Were the Schick Plus Platinum considered good blades in their day? (I assume they're no longer made. ???)

    Thanks,
    Dan

I love the Wilkinson Sword English blades. Real fine, sharp and Smooooooth. I did use the Schick Platinum Plus blades years ago. These two blades, along with the Personna blades ruled the late 60's and the 70's. Gillette, which lost a lot of market share, especially to Wilkinson Sword English blades, tried to win back some of the DE market with the Spoiler. Too little and way too late since Wilkinson, Schick and Personna had captured most of the Market. Gillette had focused too much on the Tech-matic, TracII and the Atra and lost its grip on the DE market.

Even the razors fell off with the introduction of the plastic and away from the nickle covered brass razors. I think the last "ALL" metal razor that Gillette sold was the Atra. IMO...the early Atra, the best of the multiple blade cartridge razors, was all Aluminum. Later the Atra went to Plastic with a little metal to secure the cartridge.

The Schick blades are no longer made by Schick. I think that Schick, Germany purchased Wilkinson Sword of the UK and moved the operation to Germany. IMO, The blades were never the same by Wilkinson as the ones produced in the UK. I still find the Wilkinson blades made in Germany to be fine blades and very similar, but better than, Merkur blades.

Too bad Wilkinson UK was sold and they don't make Schick DE razor blades anymore.

They were. Shamus is dead on in his assessment. Wilkinson and Schick, along with Personna, made the best DE blades in that time period. Wilkinson was first to market with the stainless steel blade, and Gillette lost tons of marketshare as a result.

This is the most interesting part of the forum to me: learning about the history of the razors AND the blades. Thanks to all
