FS: Starter Kits for Newbies
I have for sale two “Starter Kits” for those of you who are new to wet shaving and want to get started right away but don’t have an unlimited budget. These kits include the following:
Kit 1 - $31.00:
- A brand new unopened Weishi TTO Razor (includes plastic case, small mirror, and cleaning brush)
- A brand new Burma Shave Boars hair brush (the brand your Grandpa used to use)
- A 4 ounce tube of Kiss My Face shave cream (unscented)
- A sample of 20 of the most popular double edge blades including:
- 5 Feather Hi Stainless blades
- 5 Israeli Personna Super+ Platinum “Blue Pack” blades
- 5 Derby Extra blades with Chromium-Platinum-Tungsten-Polymer coated edges
- 5 Dorco Platinum Stainless Blades
Kit 2: $31.00

If you tried to buy all the stuff in each kit separately you’d spend at least $40.00 (the razor alone usually sells for $20.00 online), and by the time you tracked all the pieces down at various websites and paid shipping and handling it would probably be closer to $50.00.
I’m asking $31.00 for each kit which includes CONUS shipping via USPS Priority mail. Over the years I’ve gotten the individual items on sale, bought in bulk, or with free shipping, etc., so I can offer them together at a very reasonable price. PM me to let me know if you’re interested, I accept payment via PayPal. If you miss out on one of the kits, never fear, I’ll be offering more in a few days.
My goal with these Kits is to get some new folks who are on a tight budget off to a great start in the wet shaving world. With the above kit, you’ll have everything you need to get started in just a couple of days and then you can take your time and explore this site and buy additional items as budget and time allow. One optional piece you may want to add to the Kit is a shaving mug, but any old coffee mug lying around your house will do if you’re on a budget. Even if you don’t have an old mug lying around you can still lather directly on your face or in your hand (see the Badger and Blade forums for more information on doing this)
If you’re reading this you probably already know what a great place Badger and Blade is; overflowing with expertise, friendly advice, and the camaraderie of folks who are passionate about traditional wet shaving. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to go to the Shave Clinic & Newbie Check-In forum, click the WET SHAVING INSTRUCTIONS AND TUTORIALS: New? READ THIS THREAD! thread and browse through all the shaving tutorials. And if you haven’t done it yet, check in and say hi to everybody and let us know a bit about you and what brought you to B&B!
About the Kits:
Let me share some quick info with you about the stuff in these kits. The Weishi razor has the popular Gillette style twist to open (TTO) handle which makes it easy to insert blades. It has the reputation of being a mild razor and is ideal for beginners; however, you may decide keep it as your “go to” razor even after you’re an experienced wet shaver if you like a not to aggressive and easy to handle razor. This razor is built to last and might just still be around to pass down to your kids like previous generations have done with their old Gillette Razors.
The Burma Shave Boars Bristle Brush is entry level, but a great way to get started for the budget minded. Burma Shave is a historically famous name in shaving, your Dad or Grandpa might have used one of their brushes. It will work fine for you until you can save up for a more expensive Badger Hair Brush (although some traditionalists like Boars Hair and stick with it).
The Kiss My Face shave cream is a good entry level shave cream for the budget minded and should be enough to last you a few months. A small dollop on your shaving brush or in your mug should provide plenty of lather for your daily shave (see the tutorials on how to build lather). You’ll probably want to explore other creams and/or soaps as you progress as a wet shaver, it’s a popular addiction (SCAD or SSAD) for most of us!
The 20 razor blades that come in the kit are a sampling of some of the most popular blades among wet shavers. Start at the bottom of the list at #4 with the Dorco blades (which are the mildest) and work your way up the list over time to the Feathers which at #1 are generally agreed to be the sharpest or most aggressive (and most expensive). Decide for yourself which blade works best for you.
Keep the styptic pencil handy while you’re shaving to quickly stop the bleeding from the small nicks and cuts beginners (and experienced shavers!) sometimes get. Just dip the tip of the styptic pencil in a bit of water and dab it on the nick. Be sure to have it ready the first time you try the Feather Blades
