Default This may freak someone out..

..and amuse others but has anyone tried F.A.G Shave Cream?

    http://www.fabulousandgay.com/FAGshaveCream.html

No, this isn't a novelty company. The company makes organic products although currently the only products being offered on their web site is the shave cream and a pet shampoo. From what I can tell from their Facebook page, they are about to launch a whole new line of products in the Fall of 2010. Each product is tied to a charity in which a portion of the proceeds goes to. For example, if you buy the shave cream, you're helping support the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Magazine reviews and personal testimonies I've read have been very kind to their products - so I'm curious if anyone's used it and what you thought about it.

And let's keep the comments on the product/company, I'm not asking what you think about gay people or homosexuality. ;)

Looks like an intriguing product. I'd be curious about their ingredient list before I commit. That being said, 8 ounces for $20 isn't a bad value. Too bad I have no use for pet shampoo...

LOL, at first I thought it was just possibly an unfortunate acronym, until I clicked on the link. If I didn't consider myself a soap guy these days, I'd try it. I will say this though - finally a cream to make Nancy Boy users feel masculine

I sent an email using the Contact link on their web site and this was the reply:

    Good evening Jody,

    Thanks for contacting me.

WE are in the process of relaunching our company's line with 32 new organically inspired products.
We are also adding our home accessory line as well.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I will be sure to contact you via this current email with our updated news.

That's another one I'm curious about, the Nancy Boy cream. I'll do a search of the threads before I put out a separate call for anyone that's tried it. The prices are certainly doable but not just to try. I can't justify paying $20 for something only to not like it and never use it again. Yeah, I could PIF it but I'm still out $20 + shipping - and I think I'd have a hard time getting someone to buy a product called 'F.A.G. Fabulous and Gay' from the BST section unless, like me, they had an obvious reason to, which I haven't seen much around here.

I've wanted to try Nancy Boy for a while too - people rave about it and they *seem* to have a good corporate culture. I'd probably pick some up if I saw a good deal on the BST (and I was employed) but given that soaps just seem to work better for me, I wouldn't buy it at full price.

I just picked up some Nancy Boy cream recently. The product is sold as a brushless cream, but many on B&B have had success using it with a brush.

I've used it twice as a brushless cream, and I thought it was great. Very slick during the shave, and left my skin feeling fantastic.

The next time I'm in the mood for a cream, I'll give it a try with a brush.

I'd be interested to hear the ingredients list, if it has a label.

Might buy this solely because it supports a good cause. I also have a few friends I could give it to as a gift, and try to recruit them into wetshaving. Sounds like you're feeling outnumbered.

Thanks for sharing the link, nice to see a company giving something back for a good cause. I showed it to SWMBO (identifies as queer) and was quite pleased. I'll keep my eye on them and see what their product line looks like.

Honestly don't know how to reply to this without starting a whole debate that I'm trying to avoid in this particular thread. Let's just say I haven't seen anyone else identify and I'd been thinking about starting a related B&B social group but being a newb here, I didn't want to stir up anything.

On another note, I did buy a tub of the Nancy Boy Signature shaving cream earlier tonight (assuming people know it's a gay company as well?). Because myself and both of these companies identify with each other doesn't necessarily mean I'll like their product. I've read great things about Nancy Boy products but all I've seen about F.A.G. products is a couple of gay fashion magazine (aka biased) reviews and a guy on their Facebook page talking about how much he loves their shave cream. That's why I asked here if anyone had used it. I'm all for supporting the "family", or at least trying to but if I don't like their product, I certainly won't keep buying it just to buy it. I'll buy some from F.A.G. to give it a spin once they get their new line up of products rolling in the Fall.

I've given grief to people who felt like they "couldn't" buy Nancy Boy products due to the name. But now, I have to admit I'm a bit reluctant to purchase a product called Fabulous and Gay. Nancy Boy I see as a first rate skin-care cosmetics company that has named themselves with a winking nod toward the sexual identity of their founders. F.A.G. is blatant, and is clearly aimed at marketing directly towards gay men (and maybe women). That's fine, but if they're not going to try to be inclusive of other market segments, I don't know that I should feel guilty for not getting on board with it.

Am I judging a book by its cover, and possibly passing up a great cream? Yeah, maybe, but in light of how many other great creams are already out there, I doubt I'm missing much. Conversely, the folks at F.A.G. may have just found a way to make themselves stand out from the rest of the heap, at least with those who aren't put off by the name.

Using that, should gay people avoid, for example, Proraso or van der Hagen because they don't market to them?

As soon as it comes in, I'll try it twice - once with the 1970 Gillette black adjustable and once with the 1975 blue Lady Gillette - and then give feedback. I'm looking forward to it.

Your post is baseless and rather ludicrous; Proraso and Van der Hagen are marketed towards all men, not just straight men. The same goes towards all other shaving products that are used, loved and recommended on this board.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand...

If anyone has tried the F.A.G Shave Cream, please do give your thoughts/review on the product. Thanks.

Proraso and Van der Hagen aren't marketing based on sexuality at all. One might read a hetero vibe in some of the advertising, since Proraso emphasizes the Italian barbershop ethos, but it's not blatant. Certainly there is nothing in the name that implies, "This is for straight dudes." F.A.G. has sexual orientation in the name. I don't see how your comparison makes sense. Your comparison would make more sense with a product name like B.A.L.L. (Bang All the Luscious Ladies), but there isn't one.

Originally, you asked that we "keep the comments on the product/company." I've given my thoughts on the company.
