    Default Sheraton Variation?

Here's a pic of two Sheratons.
    Notice the difference?

What's with the one on the left.

Has anyone else ever seen one with the door pivots like that?
It looks like a gold plated Senator, but I can't imagine anyone having done that.
If they did, it was years and years ago when it was maybe a $2 razor.

Did they change the Sheratons at some point, or is this another case of Gillette making do with whatever they had on hand?

Or, is this a super rare prototype I can list as a BIN on ebay for $995?

I think the version with the rivets is a 1937 model, and the non-riveted version is a 1938. I have one with the rivets.

Ahh.. Thanks guys. I guess I have never seen a 1938 model before. Plenty of the 1937s, evidently.

I've never seen this issue come with Sheratons, but I know a similar issue exists with the 30s style US made Aristocrats. On those, I think the conventional wisdom has been that the exposure of the rivets, like the one on the right, is an earlier model whereas the one on the left is a later model. But I've never heard of specific dates associated with when the transition occurred. If the transition on the Sheraton's occurs in 1937/38, would this also apply to the 30s style US Aristocrats?

I have one of each of the Sheraton's as your photo shows. I actually got the one without the rivets first and thought it was an oddball even though it came in the Sheraton case. Thanks for showing the two variations.
