    Default Aqua Velva Revisited

The last time I used Aqua Velva was when I was in High School about 13 years ago. I bought some classic Aqua Velva, and some Ice Sport at the store, and tried them both. I absolutely hated the classic, but liked the Ice Sport. I put the classic bottle away in a box under the sink but kept on using the Ice Sport. That poor little bottle sat in that box untouched until this week when I dug it out.
I had been hesitant to try it again because of the bad experience I had with it before, but I finally decided to give it another go this morning. Wow! After the initial sting goes away that menthol kicks in and the cooling effect is amazing! I must not have been able to appreciate the sensation when I was in High School. I'm glad I gave it another try, because it will definitely be part of my regular rotation now.

Nice work! I had never seen or used Aqua Velva until spotting it in a department store a few months ago. I recently bought a bottle and it is in my "cheap and cheerful" rotation.

Most excellent stuff, that Aqua Velva. Try it over top of a shave with a mentholated shave cream such as CO Bigelow's for a major face freeze!

I might have to pick up some AV.

  5. Default Did you buy the US AV or the European version?

They're subtly different - with the European version being nicer to my nose: a subtler, less strong, scent.

I didin't experience Aqua Velva until Boot Camp. When getting ready for an inspection you would get dressed, get ready and the final step after you brushed your teeth and shaved was you would file single file out of the head (bathroom), single file, and the Drill Instructor would spray Aqua Velva on your neck and mouth wash in your mouth. If he didn't like you, he reversed the bottles!

I love the stuff. Have four 7 oz glass bottles in reserve. Classic Blue that is.

AV Musk is also very nice, and you can't beat the price.

    HI Michael,

I'm not 100% sure (this being the only version that I have tried) but it certainly has Euro labelling.

Congrads to you! I could not find AV for years until I discovered it at my Local Wal-Mart and it was like being reunited with an Ole Friend.

I stocked up on the Glass before they went to plastic.

I much prefer the Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue of the Ice Sport. The Ice Sport smells a lot like Polo Sport to me, which I wore in over abundance in junior high and high school. I think I over did it to the point that I can no longer stand the scent. For that reason, I've got a bottle of Ice Sport under my sink with 1 use out of it.

Did the formulation of Aqua Velva change when they changed the bottle, or is Classic Blue still the same? I love the glass bottle, so if it is still they same, maybe I will just refill mine when it runs out. I might have to try their Musk, and revisit the Ice Sport.

On the Sniff test it smells the same to me and the wife. So buy use and decante away!

    Default every day

I use AV every day - either Ice Blue or Original Sport (green). My Dad never used AV - he was an Old Spice man until he switched to a Philishave in the 70's, so this was a new thing for me - I decided to try it after reading posts here. I can't imagine a day without it.

I bought 20+ bottles when the plastic threat became a reality....

I thought the bottle said "Aqua Vulva" and I bought a whole case.

I finally finished my quest for some glass bottles. I just got two. I figure until they change the formulation there's no need to stock up. Man it's good stuff! I can't wait to use it tomorrow.

I wrote a letter to Combes that owns Williams now, and just asked them bluntly had they changed the formula since switching to plastic and this was the reply I got "Thank you for contacting us regarding the new Aqua Velva shatterproof bottle. First, we want to assure that there is no change to the formula. There are several reasons we moved from a glass to plastic bottle. The big advantage to plastic is that it won’t break and can be left out of the medicine cabinet without fear of shattering on the bathroom floor. Further, this initiative has a big impact on our customers handling costs and has been requested by several accounts to cut down on breakage at the warehouse and in their stores. In answer to your question, the containers were changed in February." I don't know if they are telling the truth or just BSing but I want to believe them, because I love the AV. I haven't bought any yet in the plastcrap bottle, I might buy a small one this weekend and try/smell it.
