Default How many of you keep a shaving log?

In order to keep track of your blade use?

I just started one and find that it helps a lot. Especially if you have a lot of razors in rotation.

Before, I had only one blade at a time in circulation and rotated it amongst my razors. I still had to keep track of how many times it had been used, though. With a log, I can have multiple blades going, and different types, depending on the razor. Plus I don't have to track it in my head, freeing up valuable mental space.

I thought keeping a log was way over the top when I started with DEs, but it helps a lot.

I don't keep a log. I have heard of people using dice to keep count though.

I use to keep a detailed developing log for my film photography. However, a log for shaving is certainly a way to track details on blades, cream and so on. I have been keeping detailed notes on many blades I have been using so I guess I'm a qualified yes.

I started a Shaving Journal when I got my blade sample pack. My goal is to use every blade, in every razor, at least once, and then record my impressions. So far it has been very useful. It has helped me watch trends in both the blades and my razors. It also helps me pick out razor and blade combos based on what kind of a shave I want. I'm studying to be an engineer though so this sort of meticulous cataloging is probably stereotypically nerdy.

Hmmm this is interesting. It also begs the question. Could shaving be like wine pairing? Certain creams/soaps work better with certain brushes/blades/razors/ASB/ASS ... could be interesting to keep a log and develop a pairings log.

I keep a note of how many shaves I've had per blade (DE razor).
I also keep a note on shaves with each straight...to see how many shaves I get after touch up's and how often I need to return that particular razor to the hone.

That final tick on the sheet is the conclusion to my morning ritual.

I kept a log when I got my sampler as well. Helped to keep track of issues I had and how I attempted to fix them. I gave up with it after a couple weeks when my shaves were consistent enough. In retrospect, I had lots of issues with poor lather.

I'm also an engineering type and this was just 2nd nature to me! :P

I do because I bought a gargantuan sampler pack of blades (18 varieties, what can I say? It was the cheapest price I could find per blade!), and I wanted to track my impressions on each blade. Well I finally made it through them all, and my technique has improved dramatically, so it will be interesting to see what develops on round 2.

I kinda do. I use it mostly to remind myself to shave only oncertain days because of my adiction to being clean shaven. I also used it to keep up with myFeather AC blades cause you get so many shaves out of it and since I dont shave often I loose track sometimes and just have to dump blade. I will now be experimenting with soaps/creams as the scientist in me loves to experiment.
EXPECT success in every shave and the universe will certainly make way for that success.

no logging of shaves for me, but I can see where it would make sense, especially if you have a large rotation of creams soaps and blades

Not since 1/15/2008, but since 1/1/2010 I have kept a spreadsheet. I track the razor, the brand blade, the quality of shave and how many shaves before replacing blade.

This has helped me identify that Feather's, Iridium's and Red Personna's are my top 3 blades and have bought 100+ in each... still working to define my number 4 and 5 blades.

I have to add about 1/2 my blades into the current document, and then add sections for the razors I have coming in the mail. Got another 8-9 brands to try in the last week.

I didn't record my last couple shaves, though that's easy to do at this point still.

I keep a log to keep track of which blade, corked or uncorked, razor and adjustable setting if applicable, and which soap/cream and my impression of the results a couple of hours post shave. I've only been using blades for two shaves each, so if the razor has a blade in it, I use it and toss it. I'm still trying to figure out which blades I like, once I get that ironed out I will start extending the number of uses and log that as well.

I have a new camera on the way and I am going to start keeping a picture log of my shaves. Not the same as a spread sheet, but thought it would be fun anyways.

I keep a log, since I am a recent convert to wet shaving (actually ... a "born again" wet shaver after a 25 year absence).

This helps me keep track of the different blades I am trying, and the "pairing" of razor / blade / soap.

I had a spreadsheet for a very long time. Tracked soap, razor, brush (this column wasn't very useful since my Body Shop Brush only participated in two shaves before I retired it and went back to VDH), blade, shave duration, and whether it was a bowl lather or face lather day. I was hoping to learn how long soaps lasted (I summed up number of shaves by type of soap with a formula), keep track of blade usage, speed up my shaves, and get a sense of my blade/soap preferences.

Had to abandon it though because I didn't have enough time (homework) and I would frequently forget to note a particular shave and then kind of go off the cuff. Yep, it's a sickness.

Yes. I keep a spreadsheet to track what I've got, what I've used, and how much I've used it, as well as my impressions so I'll know what to buy when things run out, versus which products to never get again.

Not exactly a log. I keep a small sticky pad in the bathroom, and when I start a new Injector blade, I make tick marks to keep track of how many shaves I have on it in case I switch to something else before it's used up. If I'm using a DE or SE razor I don't bother, as I'll use up the blade on consecutive shaves.

And because I have so many razors, I'm checking each one off a sheet when I use it for the first time.
