Stupid question re. pitting

Hi,

I'm new to this restoration stuff, hence I have a silly question...

I have just got a Ever-Ready 1912 with some minor pitting on the front. Can pitting be treated in anyway??

Is it a case of put up with it or take the whole lot off and replate? No 'simpler' options??

thanks

Only thing i can think is sanding until it is gone, then progressing through higher grits and polishes.

I have never tried to restore a DE though.

Yup, that's a refinish/replate for sure if you want to go that road. Otherwise it looks like a fine "shaving grade" item, so just shave away! Great razor you have there.

I have the travel version of the 1912 and it's a great shaver. Mine shows a good bit of brass on the inside. Just means someone really liked the way it shaved.

try fine steel wool

Omnichron, good call.

This has improved no end after a bit of wire wool and elbow grease. I'd say 80% better. I'm going to have another go later, I'll post an 'after' photo when I'm finished.

Great advice (I didn't even know I had that wool under the sink :biggrin1:).
