Default Col. Conk - Any fans

I only have two Col. Conk soaps, but I really like both of them. I'm finally learning how to get a good lather from them and the smells are great. The Amber has a nice clean smell and the Bay Rum has a nice spicy smell even though it smells nothing like Bay Rum (which I've found to be a good thing).

I never hear any mention of these soaps. Do most people not like the Colonel?

Never tried them. I hear they're pretty good though. My favorites are the D.R. Harris Shave soaps. Welcome to the board. Do you have a name or do you prefer to go by McNutt?

    McNutt,

Do you have a first name? Looks like it's "Randy" night tonight. I have Col. Conk's amber. The soap is fine, but I'm not enamored with the scent. I think that Art has melted a lime and bay rum together to get a unique combo. The quality is good, the price is inexpensive, and it is made to Col. Conk standards by the folks who make the Surrey soaps.

Actually Randy, I picked that tip up from Chris Moss, I'll give him all the credit, but I'll take it the soap anytime. And it's 2 bay rums with 1 lime to be exact. It's a very lubricating soap that has always produces a great shave. I use my smaller Saville Row brush with it though as it's in a smaller mug. But it melts nicely, is priced right like Randy said and smells great!

Unfortunately, the local shop that carries it, Chespeake Knife and Tool, just closed their doors and I now have no local supplier.

Art, do you have any Tinder Box stores at any of the malls you visit? They may be a source.

Hi Tony. Nice to see you on this board. I have never tried Col. Conk but hear good things about it.

    Tony,
I quite enjoy the conk soaps - however I find the avocado oil Col. Conk soaps to be vastly superior to the glycerin (amber, lime, or other clear conk soap) col conk soaps.

Col. Conk Almond is my FAVORITE almond fragarance... bar none!

I like the Conk soaps as well, but amber and lime are my favorites. I have a large almond and cannot STAND the smell. Never even used it. Too reminiscent of Amaretto I guess. Haven't seen the avocado....? I too procure them at the local Tinder Box.

I have enjoyed the Col. Conk line for a few years and enjoy the bay rum and lime. The scents are not overpowering but very pleasant. There is a store in Louisville that carries Col. Conk and can be ordered online. It is Heimerdinger.com. Also, Knox Cigar has a great selection of Col. Conk and other high end shave supplies at knoxcigar.com. Hope that helps!

    Default Col Conk Shave Soaps

I have all the Col's shave soaps but am using the Bay Rum. It takes a deal of
stirring the brush to produce a half decent lather. I usually use it in a Bicentennial Pewter shave mug that I bought on Ebay when I am using either Bay Rum fragrance or something leathery like Trumper's Spanish Leather or Lagerfeld or something spicy like Pashana aftershave(too bad there is no matching cologne, but believe it or not Dana's Tabu for women nearly smells the same, and a big 8oz eau de cologne can be purchased at Walgreens for about $9. It produces a nice lather, but takes effort-depending on the brush-pur badger- st badger
I have purchased most of the Col COnk shave brushes, and they are good for the prices, but the better badger ones for $45 and more plus the maroon handled silver tip badger, while the poorer quality badger and boar, and boar and badger mix are good for the beginner.

Tony, the only Col Conk soap I had was the bay rum, which was nice, at least in my opinion. My dad had a brand new cake of it, and gave it to me, because he didn't like it. He's into other soaps like Taylors or DR Harris.

I like the Col Conk soaps and always keep some on hand. I've tried the Lime, Bay Rum, and Almonds scents. I favor the first two over the Almond. I'm just not an Almond guy.

Occassionaly, I will lather up with the Lime and then drop some Taylor's Rose down in the middle of the brush. This makes for a unique scent and a good shave.

Well count me in, I like Conk soaps, with possible exception of lime. Conk lime just didn't do it for me.

I'm sorry to say this, but I've never tried them...

    I'd like to, though!

Joel mentioned the avocado oil "line" of Conk soaps. I didn't know such a thing existed...

    Default Hmmm...

I actually live in Albuquerque (just a few miles from Col Conk HQ!) but I've only seen them in 1-2 local stores. I haven't seen (nor can I find on their website!) any mention of an avocado soap...?

    Tony,

the first soap i purchased on my wetshaving journey was the col conk amber and the bay rum. i liked the bay rum better than the amber, so i made it a point to hurry up and use the amber. also, the bay rum lathered much better than the amber.

Checked their site again--there's no mention of avocado soap--but every one of the soaps is labeled as containing avocado oil.

I like Conk, but then I've never tried a proper cream either. Still, I'd like another cake of the amber.

I had not used my Conk soaps in quite some time, so I decided to break out the Bay Rum this morning. I had forgotten what a pleasant, good lathering soap this is.
