I have had both and did not have a problem with either. However, I would guess that the chrome will hold up better over the long term. I did not find either of the finishes to be slippery as long as you use caution and do not handle them with wet, soapy hands.

  3. Default Satin vs Polished Futur

I have the polished Futur and it is a beautiful tank. The finish holds up exceptionally well. My one criticism of the polished finish is that the bottom half of the head seems like it's not the same quality of polish (not as shiny) as the rest of the razor. Almost as if someone at Merkur figured, "hey, people aren't going to pay as much attention to the bottom of the head, so we will cut a corner there." That did sort of annoy me, but the set as a whole is gorgeous.

The folks at ClassicShaving.com told me that the satin finish is by far the most popular finish and that about 70% of sales are the satin. They also said, however, that the satin finish will definitely show wear more quickly than the polished finish. Any rub spots will show more quickly on the satin finish, according to the information that I was given.

I personally bought the polished finish because I think that it is a less trendy finish than the matte, and I just like how clean and glossy it looks. But I would be curious to know if others have also experienced the same annoyance with respect to the chrome polish on the under surface of the head of the razor.

    It's an awesome razor. Cheers!

I think changing blades on the Futur is relatively easy. Second only to the TTO. Make sure you find the lip on the cap (it's only on one side of the cap). Push up on the lip and pop the cap. Then push up the opposite end of the cap and you are ready to change blades.

+1 Couldn't have said it better, so I won't try.
Winning is like shaving - you do it every day or you wind up looking like a bum.
