    Default It's arrived!

The double ring along with the 14 other razors turned up in the mail today. It's in fantastic condition. I've given it a gentle polish with a cotton rag that had a bit of Magic Blue metal polish on it. It's serial number puts it as a 1905. The toggle, 2 single rings, Aristocrat, Senator, Sheraton, Goodwill, New Bostonian, New DeLuxe etc were pretty good as well. I reckon the US$350 I paid was a bargain.

Here's some pics of the double ring

Not bad condition for a razor that's 105 years old

I'll be sliding a Gillette Swede into it on the weekend and seeing how it shaves. I'm looking forward to giving it a run in the rotation.

Any time I see that you've posted something here, John, I know it will be worth seeing. Absolutely beautiful! I think you got that lot for a very fine price considering everything that came in it. Are all the others in good shape as well?

Thank you for the kind words. Most of the razors were in excellent condition. I think that three were what you'd call good user grade with cosmetic wear to varying degrees. The toggle although it looks like it's just come out of the box. doesn't have paint in the number.
I hope the seller doesn't see this but I would have paid the same amount just for the double ring considering it's condition.

I'm glad to hear that the others were mostly in excellent condition. I actually wouldn't have been too surprised to see the Double Ring sell for that much alone, even without a case. I think you got an excellent deal!

Picked these up yesterday for $10. Most fat handle techs I've seen have been in rough shape. This one looked like this when I bought it.
The Old Type was filthy, but it cleaned up beautifully. According to the serial number it was made in 1918.

I wanted a case for my Dad's Slim Adjustable and saw one on ebay with a SS in it that looked in ok condition. So I got it for $20.50 and I figured I'd BST the SS for $15 and have a case. I didn't look at the SS pics very hard. Turns out to be a 47 and and I don't have one of those (till now - not for sale) and it cleaned up pretty good:

It was used carefully or not much. The only thing wrong with it is some rust where the blade lay for who knows how long. Is it possible to get rust stain off? Exterior is excellent. A bit more work on the shine.

And the case is now holding my Dad's razor:

Not an excellent case, but if a better one comes along, I will update it.

Nice score! I guess you have to been feeling really good right now to get both of the items you wanted out of one sale. Definitely sweet

Thanks! I do feel good about it. Whether it's a small score like this one or the HUGE score like John got - a veritable treasure chest - it still feels good. I think we all have a little bit of treasure hunter inside of us, eh?

I def. agree with that. I wish I could have scored all of those razors but there is a time and place for everything. I didnt even see them for sale and I know that the razors went to the right person. There will be more, there has to be

I just managed to pick up a nice K.B.S. travel razor. From Soligen in Germany and is listed as being from the 1930's but I think the blades that come with it might put it as being earlier than that.

Here is my newest brush, it arrived today and there was much excitement.

It is a bit of a mystery, you would be surprised by how little info about vintage Simpson's is on the net. It has beautiful butterscotch tones on the top and bottom of the handle and in the middle is an almost translucent amber coloured Bakelite (?). Actually, if you hold it up to the light you could be forgiven for thinking that it IS a dark amber... but probably not, I guess.

It has Best badger above the Simpson label and Yorkminster on the other side.

The listing said it was from the forties or fifties but the only Simpson brush that I can find with a handle that looks anything like this is from this old 1930's catalogue. Could it be that old? I need your help guys. Any Simpson's experts in the audience?

The Royall Lymes is awesome. I love it already. You're right about me getting 2 bottles but I had a deal made with someone when I bought them that I would sell them one once I received both in. So only 1

You are better off posting to the Shaving Brushes forum for the target audience that you are looking for. Most excellent handle though!
