    Default It's all relative!

This morning I had the most enjoyable and comfortable shave that I can remember After my first couple of attempts with a straight on the weekend, it was nice to go back to a Futur for a stress-free (and pretty quick) shave before heading off to work. Although it was satisfying to be able to shave with the straight, my results still leave a lot to be desired and I know that it will be a while before that changes too much.
For the moment, the DE will rule the roost most of the week and the new kid on the block will get a look in on weekends.

I kind of went back and forth with the DE for a while when I started out with a straight, too. It allowed my face to heal and for me to get some decent shaves now and then.

I will say that my technique didn't really improve until I fully committed to the straight and shaved with it everyday. I know that isn't possible for everyone based on their line of work and amount of time in the morning.

    Anyway, good luck with it.

    I agree with that fully.

Thanks guys- appreciate the thought and it really does make sense. In the end, a few ordinary shaves during the week still add up to experience and hopefully I will be able to get some reasonable results in a month or so.

Just wanted to point out, that many of us learning to straight shave, do the parts of the our face we are comfortable using the Straight on (for me that's a WTG pass for now), and then do cleanup (generally one pass XTG) with a DE/SE/Injector. This allows one to still get a good quality shave, so you're presentable for work purposes.

This also allows you to be fully committed to straight shaving, and straight shave every day, while not needing to worry about the closeness of the straight razor shave.

Well your once in a while straight shaves will help when you really take the plunge. I puttered around for about a year before going the straight only route.
