Default Not to get political, but have you seen this? Bacon inside.

For those of you that were worried about a National ID card (surely there are at least a few of us here), and what that could possibly entail ("Papers, please."), what about a government mandated implanted microchip, suppossedly to keep track of your medical records for ease of access? Yet another piece of frightening legislation hidden within the so-called "Health Care Bill". Check this out: http://goldfuture.wordpress.com/2010...ericans-31810/

I always thought the purpose of the microchip was to make it easy for my dog to find me if I get lost.

Not to get too political but I wonder where all these newborn civil libertarians were when the last admin was wiretapping the phones of US citizens without a warrant and checking up on our reading habits?

On a nonpartisan note it's become pretty clear that it will not be possible to live in a modern society with all its benefits and economic advantages while maintaining the freedoms that belonged to a less developed, less technically advanced, and less controlled time. It's a good thing to keep an eye on each new violation of our liberties and privacy but the causes are intrinsic to our culture and economic system. And as long as partisanship shows like it does when half the country applauds domestic spying while the other half applauds chip implants it's pretty easy to see where we are headed.

Nothing but bad ahead, I suspect...

Both in this thread and in society, as a whole...

Gracefully, stepping back from the fray.

Not to be political, but have you noticed that site is pretty heavy on using Glenn Beck for serious quotes.
I would take such a site with a grain of:

I think you are wrong about that. Half the country didn't applaud either one of those things, you just heard the loudest voices on each side of the isle. I believe that most of the people are squarely in the middle of most of these fights, agreeing with parts of each side, but mostly not doing anything. If the apathetic middle would find some energy to do something, politics would be entirely different.
Then again, if I'M wrong about this, we've already screwed the pooch and it's a long trip down the hill.

LOL not to worry. Things have been going to hell for a few thousand years and we struggle through somehow. And political differences are good. As long as they are viewed as opportunities to find common ground. It forces us to reexamine our beliefs when people with whom we otherwise share a common interest disagree with us on political issues.

I already have a government microchip. It was implanted at the top secret government lab when the aliens abducted me.

    Typical lies.

Look closely at the actual documents this joker puts on his site and you'll see that none of them have ANYTHING to do with HR 3962, the health care reform bill that just passed. Everything else is unrelated recommendation from old documents or old versions of bills whose provisions were long ago removed. Even those that mention data-trackingdevices only refer to them in the context of life-saving devices. Nowhere is there any mention of implanting RFID devices into every American. In case, it's a dumb idea that never went anywhere.

Don't take my word for it. Do a search of HR 3962 and look for yourself. You won't find any language of this kind in there.

I think you're partly right. Ignorance and apathy are the big problem here. Too many people are too easily satisfied with platitudes and sound bites and want nothing more than to be told what they already want to believe. And too many others simply aren't paying attention.

WAIT FOR MEEEEE!!! I purposefully avoid conversations about politics, religion, and sports when in public forum. It can only lead to ill later.
