Thread: Car talk?

  1. #1

    Default Car talk?

After going over this site since I've joined I'm surprised at the lack of automobile discussion. I'm assuming if there was to be any it’d take place here in the "barber shop" thread correct? Is it that the majority of guys here lack interest in car discussion or do they save it for car related forums on other sites? Obviously topics found on Badger & Blade are distant conversations compared to automobiles but I'm just curious. I think here would be just as good of a place as any to talk about such things since we trust members opinions on wet shaving and related topics. Let me know what you gentlemen think.

Big fan of cars here (sorry don't like American made though) I talk about them quite a bit my wife us constantly telling me to shut my trap I agree we need someplace to shoot the breeze about cars.

That's what I thought, too, when I read the title. Hey, if you're in Boston, have you ever visited 1 Car Talk Plaza?

Even better than that. A friend of the family used to produce Car Talk, so one day I strong-armed her into letting me and the wife attend a live taping at WBUR in Boston, where the show is produced. It was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had. What you hear on the air is completely different than how it's taped.

Correct. I've seen a few threads go by. We've had a transmission poll (a surprisingly large proportion of manual transmission users) some talk about Toyota's latest woes along with requests for advice in an upcoming car purchase.

Car discussions always bring the potential for conflict (I owned a Brand X 35 years ago and swore never again) but, I guess, it beats gun control discussions in that respect.

I am a car/truck/motorcycle/mx nut here. I just have not been posting as I have been spending more time on a couple of truck forums lately because I am working on getting a truck I just bought back on the road! I picked up a 1994 K2500 Chev Silverado ExCab short bed *light duty 6 Lug* for $ 100 and so far put around $ 600 into it and next week I will get it registered and smogged. I just picked up the very last part for it a new Radiator still best price I got was $ 158 +tax...

Originally it had a blown 350 *bent rod in #4 cylinder*, bad heads, bad radiator and the shorty headers are leaking. Now it has a 1991 350 *was in my 68 with only 6 - 9K miles on it*, new set of heads I picked up from a guy selling them on fleabay *did not bid just went down south to pick them up* for $ 250*, fel pro gasket set for $ 52, New Oil pressure sending unit and new radiator*

Here are some pics of it when I picked it up! *before I took the rack off which is for sale*

I decided to get this for a new dd since the 08 Honda civic si is a lease and I am 8K over mileage as of now and I dont want to keep the car *I dont want any more car payments*.. And I am still working on my 68 C10 Project *just have it on hold a for a bit because of $$$ and Time*..

    Cheers,
    Charlie

Another huge fan of cars, trucks and motorcycles here. I've got a couple of cars and a bike. Though I wish there was a way I could have kept the 1959 F-100 I had a few years back. Finances and circumstances prevented that. But I still have my first car (over 20 years now - an old Comet) and am still using my first bike (I'm a new rider) and plan to keep it for the long haul and pick up another one or two.

An ongoing vehicle discussion here would be terrific. I think I'll be able to pick up another old truck here pretty soon. Or I might go with another "project" car; maybe a kit. I want something fun to play with.

Someone tell me how that fuel injection cleaner stuff works. I have a 2003 Ford Escape, with about 170 000 KM on it and I had been getting horrendous milelage. Something like 300 km to a tank of gas, which I guess if I use the online convertor would be somewhere around 11 Miles per gallon.

I was going to take it in for a tuneup but this guy at my work who is a heavy mechanic and fixes forklifts and equipment said told me not to waste my money and just go try a bottle of the fuel injection cleaner because that can make a huge difference.

So I bought a bottle of this STP stuff from Wal-Mart for $5, poured it into a full tank. And now, today, after emptying the tank with the same type of driving, I still probably have 1/5th left of the tank and I've gone 430 km. So I improved my mileage by 25-30% with a bottle of cleaner.

    Pretty amazing.

what type of driving is that 11mpg city or highway or a little of both?

I get about 15-18 mpg average on my 2002 Ford Escape.

What injector cleaner is an octane boost with specially designed detergents to remove carbon buildup and gunky fuel deposits from your lines. This only really needs to be done once a year or so as part of your regular maintenance. It'll help a bit with your milage in the long run.

Cars are my number 1 hobby, closely followed by DE shaving off course.

Am really into the pre 80s Muscle cars both from the Australia and the US
