Default most modern looking all metal razor

i have seen pics on this site of many vintage looking razors that are actually brand new. i'd like to get an all metal razor--not a cheapie gilette, but a new razor, not vintage, which has a modern and aggressive looking design. maybe an anodized metal, without the art-deco look to it. and preferably without the dumbell grip pattern on the handle. any suggestions?

the reason i want this is as an alternative to a vintage razor. soon i will be deciding which vintage razor to purchase, but first i need to get up to speed on this site about what all the terminology means

Welcomer to B&B. Have you looked at a Merkur Futur?

Have a read through the Wiki, it may help.

woah, yeah the futur in brushed aluminum looks awesome. compared to the merkur vision it is much better. any other choices than mekur though? those are nice, but they have somewhat of a one-dimensional design concept which seems to carry over from razor to razor.

there's got to be something even more avantgarde than that, with or without the adjustability feature.

will check out the wiki thanks

edit: oh and seeing as to how the b&w pictures of movie men seem to be the fashion on this site, i updated my avatar. if anyone cares to guess who it is...

    Basil Rathbone.

I'm an old guy and started watching TV when it was black and white.

you're not old peter. to use the politically correct terminology, you're 'horologically challenged'

nice guess. not elementary by any means

For all you know, my avatar could be a picture of me when I was younger.

Edit: You might also look at a Muhle R89. Not futuristic, but modern.

i honestly have no clue who that is. but his face looks kinda familiar. i'm not too good at older movies. i've only seen about 30-40 of them other than sherlock holmes. actually the most b&w i've seen on any screen is pretty much every episode of the andy griffith show. after school in high school, i had pretty much nothing else to watch other than that and mr. ed, and beverly hillbillies.

yeah, the muhle 89 is exactly what i'm trying to avoid--art deco look with dumbell grip.

if razors were cars, i'd be looking for a ferrari, rather than a vintage jaguar

Try Pils razor. Maybe pricey for most of us but definitely nice looking piece! Here they sell it: www.thedifferentscent.de.
    Have a nice day!

He was my mother's favorite actor. I actually do look a bit like him.

The star of the original "Goodbye, Mr. Chips".

I don't recall it having the knurling you wanted, but you might check out a "Goodfella" razor.

I'd suggest this in anodized aluminum.

    Or nickel plated brass.

As suggested above you might take a look at Pils. If you are stateside Gentlemen's Best has them in stock along with some of the other Pils accessories. http://gentlemensbest.com/ThePILSCollection.aspx. I don't know of anyone else state side that is selling them at the moment, so that is the only place I have been able to look at them without having to translate from German.

The Merkur Futur is a nice shaver if you choose to go that route.

I suppose knowing it was Robert Donat without the clue makes me officially old :)

'Moderne' & futuristic are so dated now - modernism is a century old. To be truly up to date we'd need a razor made from recyclables engraved with details of its low carbon footprint.

I'm an even older guy. I started watching TV when it was black and white on a 3-inch screen in a large cabinet.

Maybe a custom razor. Bob's Razor Works might whip up something that meets your specs. Trouble is, he uses re-plated vintage heads for them, and that goes against your "no vintage" specification.

For that matter, I think my Gem Bullet Tip Micromatic (1940s) and G-Bar (1950s) are very modern looking, whatever that means.

Yes, Pils, if you insist on genuinely current manufacture. No intention of buying one myself, but the pictures look fantastic, and I'm sure they shave great.

Ha! You had screens? When I was a kid, they had to carry the pictures from place to place manually.

    Just kidding, just kidding.
