Thread: Sunday Day Off

  1. #1

    Default Sunday Day Off

I try to take a day off of shaving during the weekend to allow my face to "recover" from any abuse I may have given it during the week. I used to go all weekend when I used cartridges, and didn't care as much about shaving. But, now that I am using the traditional DE wetshaving, I love it, and I only take one day off. But, man I hate that day off!!!

    I can't do it.

    That's 52 days a year!!
If you shave from the age of 18 to the age of 70 (not caring before and not able after) that's 52 years.
That's 2704 non shaving days. Yikes!

That's nearly 7 1/2 years of NOT shaving.

Well it will only make Monday's shave even more enjoyable.

I understand your sentiment, but I really enjoy shaving on the weekends in particular because I am under no time pressure at all. If I felt the need to take a day off from shaving, I would do so during the week.

    +1

Though it would be an occasional missed shave on a Saturday for me.

If you want to take a day off - that's fine. If you need to take a day off - something is not right.

Going in to B&B this morning I was thinking how nice my Saturday and Sunday shaves are. I take time to look at everything in my den, make a selection, change my mind and look some more, use extra soap/cream and (finally) enjoy a long, more attentive shave!

Since I started DE shaving, and moved on to SE and injectors, I don't think I have taken more than two days "off", and that was because my schedule simply got too tight.

Even a bit before starting with DEs, learning to lather with soap and brush improved my cartridge shaving experience so much that I no longer wanted to take a day off. My face no longer needs to recover.

I pretty much shave every day, but I often only do a single pass (which saves my face).

+1 for those of us with a sensitive face, a week of dragging a razor across it can take its toll. Some weeks I feel like I need a day off, others I dont and take it anyway. It sucks to not use all my gear, but my face thanks me for it and the shave on Monday is that much better!

I don't HAVE to shave during the week (easy going work), but I'd rather miss a weekday shave than miss the extra quality "me time" of my weekend shaves!

Sodajerk has struck the fastening device squarely on its striking surface.

In my cartridge days, a weekend day (or two) off was certainly needed. But now, since I am back to proper shaving, I find my face does not NEED a day off. If it did, there would certainly be something wrong!!

I enjoy it so much, I don't WANT to take a day off!!

And now, if you will pardon me, I'm off for the leisurely Sunday shave that Sodajerk was referring to above . . .

I always take Sunday off unless I need to be clean shaven for a special occasion. I don't need to take the day off, it's just a force of habit. Sunday is usually the laying around day, work outside day, etc.

I use DE since one year, and the only day i took off was because of a very bad razor burn case.
Kind of case that your face is on fire ALL day long, from 8 am till midnight, even the pillow felt rough on my skin.

I normally try to take the weekend off, unless I have an event to attend.

I see nothing wrong with a day off at times. It allows the face and skin to kind of heal itself from the effects of shaving.

It doesn't matter if I shave with a straight or a DE, a good shave usually lasts me 2 days. So I guess that day without having to shave would count as a day off from shaving.

I have a fairly heavy beard, but with my prep, shave, and after care routine's, I'm fortunate to be able to get such a good shave.

I've been taking Sunday off as well. I anticipate my Saturday shaves like an 8 year old views Christmas morning. So I do everything I can to make it a BBS - new blade, copious amounts of lather, hot water and attention to detail. As a result, I can slide on Sunday. This sets things up well for Monday's shave as well. I find I get a closer shave with about an extra bit of growth to mow down.

Yeah, I used to take one or two days off on the weekend when I used cartridges. Not anymore, I shave 7 days a week. I shave my head as well, and that is pretty much every other day. Funny how I look forward to something I used to find a tedious chore.
