Default My absolute closest shave ever

And from a very unexpected source:

    The black plastic Neillite.

Holy wow. The evil but lovable Pal adjustable is now 2nd place, and the good ol' Red Tip a somewhat distant third.

    Plus:
*Feels almost weightless even next to the Krona. Super lightweight in the hand; dangerously so.
    *Ultrasmooth shave.
*Safety bars on each side are different, apparently giving two different levels of close.
    *Cleaning is a snap.
*No moving parts...if it's in good shape, you will never wear it out.
    *Can be had very cheap.

    Minus:
*Fragile, at least compared with brass. Do not drop.
*Aggressive! I was not expecting it to be as aggressive as it is and took a chunk - a small but literal chunk - out of my neck using the exact same DE touch I'd use with my Gillettes (it was the light weight threw me). After dealing with the cut, I went ahead and finished with the Neillite. Result: smoother in my problem areas (larynx and just under jawline) than even the Pal had been getting. The truest BBS I have ever had. EVER.

Someday I'm going to get a 2nd one for backup. I highly suggest you try one out if you have the means...and anyone does. You'll probably end up adding it to your regular arsenal.

Wife's back tomorrow with the camera but here's a better pic of the beast than I could take...

Look close and you can see there's four "teeth" on the one side and seven or so on the other. The four side is what got me.

Google just turned up some now-dead threads discussing it...some guys commented how close it shaved. Believe it.

Just used it for the 2nd time, this time in a quiet house (last time I had the radio playing). I now notice it has the same feedback noise as an SE does, if you're into that. Quite loud, far more than the Gillettes. Probably due to the plastic head resonating some, I'm guessing.

BBS again; used a lighter touch, so no slice and dice this time. Looks like a DE is now back in my main rotation.

I fired up my Neillite this morning. I put a Schick Krona vintage DE blade in that was already 5 shaves old. I shaved with the more aggressive side of the razor. Three passes and total BBS. Absolutely amazing shave. This now joins the GEM 1912, the New Standard and the 1930's Aristocrat in my best shaves group. I had no nicks, no cuts or weepers. I splashed on the D&G aftershave and no burn at all. If you're seriously interested in a good shave then grab one and try it out. I'm looking forward to trying it with a new Feather blade in it.

heres the history of the neillite razor , its from Janmes Neil and company, Sheilfeid England(one of best steel/blade making parts of world). its a England and USA made razor, called the "neillite 400', made in New York. 1st used in 1953, it has a new head made of plastic..Jr Watkins of Minesotta also makes these plastic Gillette types. Theres 2 companies in New York that made these in 1930's, one is AMERICAN MERCHANDISE CO. INC 1935, and NY, the 2nd company is LEWIS BERK/ BROOLYN NY 1938. both theese companies made a variaty of plastic gillette razors....

Was that the one that had a $9.95 buy it now? I was going to grab that as a spare but I thought I'd ask the seller if he ships to Australia first. Looks like I shouldn't have said anything until I grabbed it.

This is the kind of sneaky thing that can re-awaken the RAD monster. If somebody tells me I've just got to try a Toggle, or need to have a cased Double Ring in my collection, it's easy to resist because of the price. If it's just some cheap little plastic gizmo that I can probably pick up for less than $10, it's easy to get sucked in.

Not this time. The razor purchases are over. For now.

I remembered you telling me that you had dropped yours and broken it which is why I was trying to pick up a spare. Me and my big mouth .

I'll keep my eye out and pick up another one at some stage, assuming that the whole B&B board doesn't decide to try and pick one up

So these sudden auction price spikes on certain tonsorial accouterments haven't been just my imagination?
