    Smile Greetings

    Hey y'all,

I took the wet shaving plunge about a month ago, buying some overpriced stuff from AOS. I've since begun upgrading my gear, and every single day I'm able to shave is sheer pleasure (I NEVER thought I'd ever say something like that).

I'm pleased with my Merkur 38C, paired with Iridiums and Feathers. I recently paid Thirdeye a visit at his store, and bought a boatload of soaps to try, including Trumper's Coconut, Speick, Tabac, and his own Gentlemen's Best soap (which is amazing!).

I picked up a bottle of Gentlemen's Refinery Standard ASB, and I'm blown away by how well it works. No need for anything else--and it was quite an upgrade over my AOS Lavender gel.

My brush isn't as stiff as I would like, and I feel that it doesn't exfoliate as well as I'd like it to. Does anybody have a brush recommendation that would fit the bill? I'm thinking along the lines of a Semogue 1305.

Cheers, and glad to be here!

    Welcome.

If you are after a stiffer brush, try a Rooney 3/1. An Omega Boar may also fit the bill.

Heh! TWGW was eyeing my purchases the other day, and stated, "So, that'll probably be it for a while for shaving-related purchases, right?" I mumbled something noncommittal in reply, while thinking of the beautiful brushes I had seen in thirdeye's shop.

    Thumbs up Wow!

    Good afternoon, gents!

For today's shave I decided to really concentrate on some fundamentals. I used a Feather for the first time, and stuck with my Trumper's coconut, which had impressed me a few days ago.

I took great care to ensure a proper pre-shave prep: long hot shower, a hot towel with a lather base, and keeping this on for 2 minutes or so.

    What I focused on was:

    1. Speed--I went as slow as I could. Every stroke was deliberate and well-planned.
    2. No pressure. NO PRESSURE. This was tough, but I discovered that it was possible, once I implemented the next item on my list.
    3. Angle of razor head to the cutting surface. I paid particular attention to this detail, and discovered that angle is everything! I managed to hit that sweet spot where the blade effortlessly shears off anything in its path, while sparing the skin underneath it. This was a real pleasure!

I've got a few weepers to show for my effort, but damn, is it a close shave! I went WTG and XTG after a re-lather. There was a bit of razor burn as well, but that's due to the fact that these Feathers are pretty unforgiving, and I chalk it up to my fledgling technique.

    Happy Saturday, all!

I used my Tabac stick for the first time today, along with a once-used Feather. My application was a bit overzealous, because there was enough unlathered soap on my face to clog up the razor The shave was excellent, though--I'm impressed with the Tabac, even though the aroma isn't my favorite. I continued my efforts at being slow and steady, along with paying special attention to the blade angle. A quick 1-pass WTG, and I'm good to go for the day!

    Happy Monday.
