Default A great day at the antique show!

Wow what a fun day! It was our once a year big antique show. Last year I didn’t get a single razor. Only a fountain pen and a brand new 19_ _ Wool Hunting/Shooting coat. This year there was tonnes of DE razors. Mostly assorted techs and ball ends, some open combs etc. All very fairly priced too. There were about three dozen straights but sadly people seem to have identified these as a money maker, prices were at or near $75.00-$100.00 for rusty, pitted, warped...you get the idea. I had talked my way into a near mint Boker with nice gold wash for $40.00 until the guy beside me said he would pay full price...

At any rate I did come away better than well!

I purchased the following for a total of $23.00!! (Sorry for the poor pics I will take some better razor porn in the morning)

This was in a plastic bag and I was thrilled to get another Rocket...until I got it home and discovered what I actually had was an Aristocrat Jr.! Polished up to a mirror with Maas!

The same vendor said “oh wait, I have another” and produced a Fat Boy. Missing the black in the numbers but mechanically the best Fat Boy I’ve found so far!

As I skimmed past a booth of plates, figurines and other knick-knackery you can’t shave with my wife called out “don’t you want the brush?” I have heard mixed reviews of the Vulfix brand but I have not seen one with this older style decal? It is a NOS 2198 pure badger. Cream handle, small and for $5.00 I decided this could be my first badger. It lathers up very quickly and stinks like something wet and animal like (go figure)...I am lathering it over and over with a Williams puck until it no longer stinks!

I passed on this bottle of Luxo brand (Canada) Lilas de France aftershave. A very big bottle with an inch or so of product in...Smelled sort of like a cross between the original Old Spice, something vegetal and bug spray...actually it was pleasant but for $35.00 firm I decided to walk away.

All in all a great date with my wife who was also well pleased by the stamps, plates etc that she got.
The only thing I passed on that I kind of regret was a massive lather catcher with a hunting scene on it...just too cumbersome to get home via subway, with a sore back. Maybe I will go see if it's there tomorrow with the car!

    Better pictures later!
    Nothing to read here...move along

dude, I was tracking that one right to the last second. I was going to throw down on it, but I already have 3 aristocrats - two 47s and 1 30s open comb. I like the look of this one though. I was on the verge. But then I remembered I spent money like I was going to face the firing squad next Tuesday. I let it go...

I hope it's as nice as we think it is, crummy pictures by the seller.

Nice, good score for a good price. Tell your wife it's a deal.

    Thanks!

I hope the wife is still understanding when I win the two other Aristocrats that I bid on. They are not going for the price that this one ended. I am going to leave those bids where they are, hopefully that will keep me out of the dog house. The bids are low and the 'Crats are good. They will probably go higher.

    Default odd razor related tat

I seem to be so desperate to find razor related stuff in the wild, that I will apparently buy anything. What odd stuff this is:

Hollow ground razor blades? Full pack too.

You see those DE hones come up on eBay fairly often. Seem to be mostly depression and WWII era items.

I tell ya, I have a couple of bids in right now and I'm just sitting back thinking, please somebody, just 5 more bucks and I will be free from a spur of the moment weakness!

I remember we talked about not wanting to use a good vintage case for traveling - rough traveling at least. Check out these pics:

No, this is not a paper weight sitting on my desk, it is my new SuperSpeed Vault. I will be doing a lot of machine work in the next few weeks.

But right now it is just a solid block of aluminum being a paper weight on my desk. I will post some pics for everybody when I get finished.

I think you did very well. Price is good and it looks in very nice condition. They also shave very well. I think that you'll be very impressed with it.

Good deal on that brush - you could leave it in the Williams overnight or swish it in some Borax, too. Good scores-

I should also really investigate into this a little more. What's the secret? Those cases look good.

The old steel blades rusted and dulled quickly. That and the general lack of money probably sold a lot of these.
