Probably going to have to replace the keyboard. On the ones I have worked on, there's three or four screws on the bottom and then the keyboard lifts up. There's been a couple small ribbon cables connecting the kb to the mb that you need to be careful with.

Figure around $50 for the kb, and if you have to pay someone to do it, 1/2 of labor should be plenty.

So the screws on the back are holding the kb down? Hmmm. I love to take things apart, never tried a laptop

If disappear from the forum it's because I broked it.

Was the enter key drooled to death?

On my keyboard, there are ar four tabs at the top that slide, either up/down or across, and those lock the keyboard in place.

Yes, also probably gummed into submission first. Figures she went for a pretty often used key. I don't seem to have any tabs visible here, going to check wikihow, they have some crazy things there.

What make / model laptop? Not ALL of the screws hold the keyboard down. There's various "layers" of things that the screws hold down. Best to track down the service manual or some sort of instructions for your laptop.

I have removed the keyboard a few times on mine. Try a google search for the service manual for your specific model.

My daughter had a Dell laptop (years ago) for which they labeled the keyboard screw holes each with a letter "k" on the underside of the case.

eHow had a simple picture walk through on how to do it, screws are on top, just have to pry up a cover on the hinges area. Just need to get the keyboard.
