Default I have no idea on this

Okay, here's another "can anybody identify what this is?" post. I found this at a flea market. It has absolutely no marking/numbers on it. Anybody seen one of these before? Thanks for looking and I appreciate any info someone might have!

I owned one of these razors briefly. It comes in a unidentified cardboard box. Box says nothing except Double Edge Razor on it. Near as I can tell, it was mass produced in China.

It is absolutely one of the poorest quality razors ever made, and nearly impossible to get equal blade exposure. The head pieces are also made of very thin metal, and stamped in a press.

+1 on every count. An ebay seller put one of these in with my purchase some time ago. Somebody here had a whole bunch of them at one time. I don't know why I kept it. It's the absolutely worst, cheapest razor made I think.

Didn't mention it in my first post, but I didn't bother to try to shave with the razor, due to the inability to properly center the blade: one edge would have been very mild, while the other would have ripped your face up.

I eventually pitched it in the trash can, as being useless, and not even worth PIFing to someone else. I only paid $2 for it anyway.

Amazing! Thanks for the info, fellas. So I guess these were produced some time ago, according to the look of the box...? Anyway, glad I only paid $3 for it...and glad I haven't ever shaved with it!

For $3 it was worth a shot. You can always turn it in for metal scrap rather than have it sit in some dump for a few hundred years.

I think the handle is really nice and elegant. Will the threads fit a Tech head?

If it suits you, perhaps you could salvage a nice Tech whose handle is too far gone. That's what I would try to do, anyway.

Yes, the Tech head will fit onto this handle (as will New, and Old type heads as well), however this handle is super lightweight (if I recall correctly), and hence the resulting razor would likely be very head heavy (which some people don't mind).

Hmmm...not a bad idea. I have an old Tech I might try that with! Maybe make me a Frankenrazor, see how that goes!

I got one of these years ago. It was/is my thought that these were made during WW2 for sale in PXs and the like when the big boys were producing razors by the mission for the armed forces. Handle on mine appears to be steel and has some weight to it. The head is also stamped steel.

The one I have is not as bad as some others seem to have been blessed with. Not a great shaver, marginal at best but not likely to perform mayhem on my face.

For the price, even if you never shave with it, it will look nice in the display of your ever growing collection.
    A nice conversation piece.

I've got a Goodfella that fills that niche for me right now, and the cost was considerably higher than what you paid for yours.

I say bravo. Good score my friend.

    Update:

So this morning...curiosity got the best of me. I HAD to try and shave with this thing. I loaded a Derby blade into it. I was actually able to get it lined up with pretty even blade exposure on both sides. I went to work. Not only was it my first shave with this specific razor, but it was my first experience shaving with an open comb. I took it slow and steady and tried to watch my angle. I ended up doing a 3 pass shave with no problems! No weepers or nicks!

Then I did a final rinse off and some touch ups. It's been almost 3 hours, and my face isn't irritated at all. I am now feeling a tiny bit more stubble than I'm used to, but I got a quite serviceable shave out of this little fella. And mine too has the heavy-feeling handle. I'm glad I bought this thing! Of course, this can all probably be summed up as a case of YMMV. Or maybe I just got one that was "stamped out" better than some of the other ones. Looks like quality control was not a priority when these were manufactured.

I think I'll keep it...and maybe even do some handle switch-er-oos with some Gillettes and see what happens. The fun you can have with a $3 flea market find!

A seller on the Bay has them by the dozen. Not sure where he got them. I had thought of buying 10 or so and reselling them for my cost here but someone else always outbids my botton feeder bid.

While mine is not near the top of my 'best razor' list, I have bought and used worse.
