    Default Women's leg shaving

So I offered to shave my wife's legs with my DE once. She was amazed by how long it took the hair to grow back out and how soft/smooth the shave and the hairs felt when growing back out. She's already asked me to do it twice more so I guess I'm spreading the joy of DE shaving here

I have no idea how women normally shave their legs though and my wife has never really liked shaving as she never got decent results from it. I know there are some ladies here that have some experience so what do you say? Do you usually go against the grain immediately or only with the grain? More than one pass or is one enough?

The tutorials for how to shave your legs say:
    - Keep legs wet
    - Exfoliate
    - Apply foam
    - Use a new razor blade
    - Shave against the grain

I can't speak for all women, but I think this is usually how women shave, and if you've ever visited a beauty forum of some kind you will hear lots of complaints about ingrown hairs, about not getting all of it etc. For me, this method DOES NOT WORK which really is the main reason I started looking into how to shave since legs that look like they have chicken pox is not nice.

I've had good results applying the advice for how to shave a face on my legs going first with the grain, then against the grain, then touching up any rough spots. Doing a with the grain, across the grain, across the grain, against the grain just is so time consuming that I can't be bothered on my legs though I think the result would be even better since it is on my face. My sister can get away with just one pass against the grain, since her hair is baby fine. Mine takes some more convincing to disappear.

I just ordered my first safety razor this week, so waiting for it to see if the results are as good as those your wife experienced. I hope so, once I've got the technique down.

Can't speak for the ladies...but having done SWMBO's legs a couple of times (Tech loaded with a Feather), 2 x WTG was sufficient and she was very happy with the results!

Mine is so fine it's almost negligable but Shaving leg hair with the grain would be awkward in my opinion. Most leg hair grows down towards the ankle/foot. It only seems natural to shave from the ankle up or against the grain. But then I could be wrong .... .

Just checked with Mrs. Pumpkin...should have done that first!

When she's doing her legs herself, she starts at the ankle and works up (ATG), still uses the Tech and gets pretty much everything in one pass!

It really depends on how long it's been since my last shave. If it's been more than a couple days, I do a WTG, ATG, then another half-pass or so of touch-ups. If it's only been a couple days, I do ATG, ATG, then touch-ups. The problem with leg shaving versus face shaving is a lot of people can do a full 4-pass shave on their face before I've finished with one leg, so doing more than 2 passes gets to be a drag.

Also, the same diligence about mapping the direction of your hair growth that applies to one's face also applies to a leg. The grain on the back of my leg goes diagonally, and I never had a close shave there until I realized I was, at best, shaving XTG by going NS or SN.

My wife uses my '59 SS all the time and loves it. Not quite happy she's using my penhaligon's stuff but just means I can buy more stuff.
