  1. Default Parker 21 repair

Having just purchased a very used Parker 21 in what seemed to be good condition it would appear that the sac has a leak. When submerging the pen in water and pressing the fill bar bubbles come out from where the sac enters the body of the pen. Is this repairable or even worth it considering I paid $18 for the pen? Should I just consider it a lesson learned in the new to me world of fountain pens?

It is probably not worth getting repaired. The only way I would spend time repairing a 21 is if it had some kind of sentimental value.

Maybe you could get a 51 next, if you want that style of pen? They are worth repairing if something isn't working, and they should last a lifetime.

Great gesture Brian! The 21 was never meant to be the top of the line but I don't ever remember a sac bursting on one. I recently bought a NOS from a fellow on Fountain Pen Network and I really like the pen.

Thanks for the replies. I figured as much. It just chaps me that I wasted money like that. Buyer beware I guess...

    Brian,

I really appreciate the gesture. I'll pass for the moment as I picked up a couple of super cheap Hero's to try. If I like it I just might do a bit more research on the Parker 51's and pens of equal quality before I jump in again...

I think the sac would cost a couple bucks and you could take a try at fixing it yourself. I have resacced Estebrooks and it takes five minutes and three or four bucks. I got the sacs locally from a guy that had extra so I am not sure of an online source for them, but I imagine you could find that fairly easily.

I have a bunch of fountain pens, including a couple 51's, and my favorite is an EF Super 21.

After a bit of research it looks like there is a brick & mortar fountain pen store here locally. I might run it over to them and see what their thoughts are on fixing it. Other than the leak it really is in quite good condition.

One way to look at it is as an introduction into FP repair. Replacing the sac is fairly easy, if you want to try it. The nice thing is, if you're going to replace the pen anyway, there's nothing to lose.

    Just a thought.
