    Arrow Please recommend nail clippers

I am looking for really sharp and easy to use (shouldn't have to press too hard) nail clippers. Also they should leave as much as possible a clean cut, so I don't have to file afterwards.

I have no idea where to start looking for quality ones so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I really like the ACE nail clippers. The jumbo size seems to provide extra leverage which allows them to cut easily. Link

I really like the Feather PaRaDa nail clippers if you can find them.

I've got a cat named Beefeater and a dog named Beefeater, and two goldfish called Beefeater and Beefeater. There's Beefeater my hamster and Beefeater my horse, and my piglet, known as Beefeater of course.

I've got a pair that I've had since I was about 12 years old. I don't even know the make, but my grandfather gave them to me. They've never failed to make a nice cut.

I would think any good cutlery shop would have good quality clippers, and should let you try them out.

Don't get the cheapo's, you won't be satisfied at all. Spend a few busk and get something nice. I've been using these that my grandfather gave me for well over 45 years. I keep them in my dopp kit, and they've been all over the world with me, through my military service, and my travels since. Not to mention always available at home.

Thanks for your suggestions all. I will check that Parada ones.

Do they cut cleanly or does one have to pass a nail filer afterwards?

I've got two pair of the Feather PaRaDa clippers (small and medium), and, while they are a bit on the pricey side, they're worth every penny. To answer your question, the cut is so clean that you really do not need to use a file afterwards, although I do use one just to get the length exactly right. Get a pair from Classic Shaving.com, you won't regret it!

These are the ones my dad uses, he always has the best of everything. http://www.amazon.com/Seki-Edge-Stai.../dp/B000F35R00 The feather ones sound like they would fit the bill too though.

I acquired a fine one along with precision scissors, tweezer and superb glass nail file, all in a leather pouch from Brookstone for about sixty dollars. I believe the manufacturer is the German firm of Dovo which enjoys a stellar reputation for all its grooming implements.

I have these, made by DOVO. Had them for 12 years and they still cut like new. The handle is designed nicely, too, so you get good leverage and no slipping. They were only around $20 when I bought them, but they seem to be >$30 now.

Yes, these are the same ones I alluded to earlier-they're superb and clean cutting.

Thanks to the leads here, a Seki Edge toe and a Pour Homme (Zwilling/Henckels) Ultra Slim nail are en route. My old Trim nail and Revlon toe were pretty dull with the later even sporting chipped edges. So finding this thread was auspicious. Thanks gents!

    Amazon.com for both

    Pour Homme here: http://www.amazon.com/Pour-Homme-Cli...f=pd_rhf_p_t_2

    Seki Edge here: http://www.amazon.com/Seki-Edge-Toe-...7917998&sr=8-2

I suppose these could be viewed as expensive but as others have stated above, they're so much better performing and more durable than the el cheapos that it's worth it. I justified it thinking back to when I smoked cigars and paid $70 for a Xikar cigar cutter :) I think my digits are more deserving of proper tools than a tube of tight tobacco leaves even if they were fashioned on the inner thighs of young buxom ladies like cubanos of old were said to have been. The Seki Edge instrument is amazing. Well built, more ergonomic than anything else on the market, and super sharp edges. I like the heft too as these are substantial clippers. Highly recommended!

Perhaps handling them and then the Zwilling/Henckels/Pour Homme ultra slim flat clippers is unfair. The little jobs are nicely designed (you can easily appreciate why it won an award). They're also very sharp but boy do they feel like they're hardly in your grasp because they're so light, flat, and slim....I almost want to use the term insubstantial. Unlike the big Seki, these are taking some "getting used to" time as they differ so much from the conventional designs. That said they are very nice.
