    Default Parker 96r

I jumped on one of these on amazon, and I just shaved with it for the first time tonight.

I picked up a Gillette '48-51 Super Speed at an antiques place yesterday for $5, and it shaves like a dream!

The Parker tore me apart. Holy cow, I've never seen so much blood spots at one time! is the parker really that much more of an aggressive razor, or was I just doing it wrong? I tried the normal technique, but maybe did it a little faster than I should have...tips for next time?

Tips: forget about the Parkers which are notorious for bad quality control (you might want to check your razor for uneven blade exposure, such a condition makes one side of the razor more aggressive than the other), and stick with the vintage Gillette which is giving you an incredible shave.

Why suffer through horrible shaves, when you already have a replacement razor that "shaves like a dream"??

Oh yeah... I forgot to say that if I just let it close the blade line seems quie uneven, so I hold the blade straight as I close it until I can't turn it anymore then turn the rest after letting go.

I think it makes it a bit more even, but I don't know if it makes any difference.

I have a 96r, and barring an adjustable cranked wide open it's the most aggressive razor I have. Sometimes I like that, but it's definitely responsible for my worst nicks, and I'm usually pretty careful.

Parkers are just unpredictable. I've got one with the new 2010 head and although it's better (some) I think it'll be the last Parker I get--they just don't match Merkur, EJ or the old Gillettes for quality.

Now that I'm home, I took a quick look at it and the head is off; even though its a 2010 head. The blade sticks noticeably further out on one side, and it is barely poking out on the other side. I guess I found my problem!

Yeah, try what I said, but I am not sure if it realy effects things that much.
I think you just gotta be careful with this razor

Sounds like the same problem most of these Parker razors have. I would never buy one for this reason.

It was my first and my last!

I'll stick with my vintage Gillettes, and maybe someday get a Merkur.
