    Default My banned soaps

Well, so many soaps out there to like, it's nigh impossible to name them.
    Much easier to name the soaps that I just can't stand;

    Cella - in the Cellar
Speick - is it just coincidence that its name is similar to a command given to a dog?
Van Der Hagen - a buck and a half for creepy flesh toned baby powder smelling slimy mucous?
Tabac - lathers like dish soap and smells like it (after you've washed the ferret).
Arko - not bad actually, if you're too poor to buy something decent.
Prairie Creations - need we say any more than just that?

    Just my opinion.

    YMMV

Phil, the trick is to never lend your Tabac to a ferret. Let him buy his own soap.

Let the hate flow through you.
I can DFS with XTG, and CCS PDQ with WTG, but BBS needs ATG or I'm SOL. That's just my MO. You may think BFD, but if you read the FAQ in the WIKI, you'll find out ASAP that's it's not the SOS.

I've seen every soap here on multiple users "favorites" list. The only ones I haven't seen a consensus of at least "very good" on are PC and VDH.

    My banned list:

Reformulated Penhaligon's EF. I'm boycotting those basterds for castration one of the greatest soaps ever.

I can't truly ban Williams, as we are in an unheathy co-dependent relationship that shows no letting up....I am currently in remission, however.

    Phil,

You are a gent of the highest order, and I look forward to your posts.

Your perverse and wrong-headed view of some soaps I like only confirms that your sterling character overshadows any foolish opinions you may hold.

    Okay..

    I'll fess up.

I actually like those soaps I have listed (well, the VDH is in the far back corner, but I don't have any issue with it - and I have never used PC)

I picked those soaps in particular because they are spread across a pretty wide spectrum of users here, and I was almost certain to nail at least ONE favorite of about everybody.

And I bad mouthed them to at least try to demonstrate to some guys how folks on this board may feel when their favorite is constantly bashed - and I don't mean the "Tell me what you think about XXX" posts, where pro and con is invited. Nope, I'm talking about posts that are titled "I really like xxx" or "I see you like xxx, can you tell me where I can buy it?"

Those posts would generally be considered xxx friendly.

I'm not so naive as to think that everyone should like everything, but jeesh - if a guy likes something, leave him alone and let him like it already. Do we have to be such "negative nancys" about what someone ELSE likes?

Truly, the bashing can be as irritating as the fanboy posts, but at least the fanboy posts have a logical explanation - they are usually started by folks newer to B&B who have not seen the 937 other posts praising the same product.

I have always been of the belief that you get more out of a review of a product by the lack of good things said about it, than you do by any amount of bad things said about it.

Can't we all just get along??

Phil, the Tabac's going a little too far, but I was surprised not to see the reformulated TOBS Avocado on your list.

Ditto that. And don't lend him the money, either.

Ahh, good. My brain is less confused now.

I like most soaps I've used... but I believe Tlanner called me a "researcher" type and what I think he was referring to was my extreme desire to find a purpose for everything (after I try everything). For instance, my first attempt at shaving with Williams was mediocre, but with a little practice (and stealing other people's idea's) I've gotten to where I can get excellent lather from it. (Really all it needs is a little glycerin and a lot of whipping).

Generally, the only shave soaps I'm willing to accept as being underachievers are ones that are an afterthought of a producer who's primary business is unrelated (why I am in no hurry to attempt to find a way to get good lather from Burts Bee's soap).

But aside from those products, I find that if you're willing to work at it you can find a way to make all soaps work well. And some day I will get Seraph to not only use Williams regularly, but advise noobs on how good it can be. *points menacingly at Seraph*
