Default Samplers --- finally ordered some

This is rather lame but for more years than I care to admit I've had in the back of my mind to order some shaving cream samplers. Around here we don't have much to choose from so mail order is de rigeur. Well while looking through pages here with the Olympics on the TV I resolved to "do it!" I ended up with samplers from The Gentlemans Refinery and Trufitt & Hill ordered. Both are inexpensive and include shipping. I'm anxious to see how they stack up against my standards from TOBS and Trumpers shown in my signature below.

You'll definitely have to tell us how you feel they stack up against Trumpers

Sampler packs are great!!! I've not tried anything from The Gentleman's Refinery, but I have tried the Truefiit and Hill sample pack. Performance wise, T&H might slightly edge out TOBS and be comparable to Trumpers. And there is no way of telling wether you will like the scent. They are all finely crafted, but some weren't for me (esp 1805). Grafton and Trafalgar were definitely my two favorite. After you've had a chance to give them a whirl, let us know what you think.

I've been thinking about getting the T&H sampler set myself but I just ordered the Trumper's sampler and some other soaps & creams. Maybe next month. Eventually I want to try all of the 3Ts but too bad TOBS don't do samplers

I order a TOBS sample pack from Shaving Essentials that included all of their different shaving creams for $20 plus shipping. The only problem is their website is still down, but I would check there.

Do they include samples of the aftershaves too? I would check with them except that their website is down (as you've said) and I really have no idea how to contact them.

Well between Saturday and this afternoon the sampler packs from Gentlemans Refinery and Truefitt & Hill arrived. Big difference in packaging. TGR sent three 7ml mini-jars of cream and 4 vials of balms and oil. T&H sent seven 5ml "tear and pinch envelopes" of cream and a lesser number of balms and lotions all in a small drawstring faux velour pouch.

I tried the TGR Black Ice this morning. The jar smell of this anise is quite strong but once lathered up much much less. I hope to get a total of 3 shaves from each of the TGR samples. I suspect it'll be more like 2 with those from T&H.

As an aside my Robert Becker Feats of Clay small one piece scuttle showed up today as well. It is sized between the small and large Moss offerings and holds 12+ ounces of water in the heat jacket. Nice stuff!

The Shave Den offers samples of a lot of different brands, TOBS being one of them. Some of the more popular scents may be out of stock, but most are not. Also, I recently got samples of the Fraser soaps and Boosters AS from Shoebox Shave Shop. I did not want to buy such a HUGE tub of cream before I knew which scent I would like. Good prices, good service, you should try it out.

I was actually surprised how many shaves I got from each TH sample, I face lather though, that might affect how much you use. I got 3-4 from each. The ASB samplers lasted even longer.

T&H is top notch cream. I'm finishing out my sampler from them. I wasn't impressed with the lavender scent, but the creams all work well. I am more of a fan of the cologne scented creams. I am a big 1805 fan and because of the sampler, I am now a West Indian Limes fan. I ended up with a bottle of the Limes AS balm this weekend. I plan on getting the vastly less expensive TOBS Lemon Lime shaving cream and using my T&H Lime AS Balm on top.

It's also worth noting that their pre-shave oil is outstanding. To me it has a light citrus scent, but nothing that would overpower competeing scents you put over it.
