NEW: long vs short comb

I scored a short comb bar handle NEW on the bay yesterday. Currently I have a long comb with a ball-end. I found it to be too light and not very well balanced, probably because of the hollow handle. I intend to try the bar handle with both heads once I receive my new razor. I expect the extra weight will improve the shave. However, I'm curious as to when the different comb lengths were made, and for what purpose. Were they on separate razor models, or produced in different years? Is one comb type rarer than the other? And most importantly(!), how might I expect the shaves to differ?

There have been a few trials beween LC, SC, US and UK NEW's, personally I've found them to be fairly similar shave wise with the LC (UK and US) taking the prize for more comfort.
