Burts shave soap smells fantastic but won't lather if you held a gun to it's head.

It actually smells so good that I'd gladly pick more up just to use in conjunction with a cream that WILL lather.

My first traditional shaving setup was a BB gift pack with soap, brush, and mug. The only usable part for me was the mug. It almost turned me off wet shaving from the get-go.

Clubman Pinaud "Virgin Islands" was the first Aftershave I bought online, and the first I ever liked enough to use every day. A sweet spicey smell, but not peppery like old spice, with cinnamon, clove and bay notes that always invigorates me. It tells you how well your shaving by the burn and heals your face with a great tingle approaching numbness if you really ripped your face up. I recently sampled Ogallalla as well and like the witch hazel and stronger tones of clove. I would like to always have a bottle of both around, though I'm partial to Clubman for their range of Aftershaves, including Lilac Vegetal which I highly recommend as well.

Has the Burt's Bees Bay Rum been discontinued? I don't find a reference to it on their web site.

I have not tried the Ogallalla, but it's hard to beat Royall Bay Rum!

Alraz's (he's a member, PM him for info) Calypso bay rum shaving cream and balm are the best I've tried and the scent is long-lasting, ridiculously good.

DR Harris and St. John's are the best pure bay rums. Everything else is a distant 3rd.

What are they like? Are the scents overpowering, or are they "just right?"

This inspired me to go to the Ogallala website, where I ordered the 5-sampler pack for $15.00, ended up getting some of their deodorant and room spray as well, for under $30.

Look forward to seeing this. I currently use and like the Pinaud Bay Rum.

    Of the three I've tried:

    1) Ogallala
    2) Dominica
    3) Pinaud

Ogallaga is great in all forms, except, for me, the reserve. Regular AS is my fav among them.

    Pinaud is a classic!
plus one ! dominica is the "purists" choice in bay rums, not a trace of sweetness, real true bay aroma, nice feel,soothing....superior 70 is hands down best buy at $2.50 a bottle

I've tried almost all of the bay rums out there, but St. John's is the keeper for me. It doesn't last a long time, but for the moment, the scent is amazing. The balm is really nice.

+ 1 on the Dominica, haven't tried too many though...the only other I'd tried was 15 years ago By Body Crystal of California, not made anymore but it was similar in scent and quality to the Dominica. Haven't found the need to try anything else yet.
    It lathers like a Howitzer!
