Nice work, Joel. Your stropping alone was worth the price of admission - must go practice more.

That was worth watching.

good vid to see. I don't know if was by accident or design, (either way I am happy) that the blade angle (almost flat) was captured on left of screen. I'm towards 30 str8 shaves

Thank you Joel,
This should help many people out and eliminate some of the fear associated with straight razors.
Great video!

Thanks so much Joel. I'm still learning and getting used to a DE but I have a couple of my grandfather's straights that I'd like to get fixed up and try one day and your video helps ease my fears.
I'm really impressed with the quality of that video and your smooth presentation on it. Same with Mantics. What a very helpful group you are on this site!
A day that starts with bay rum is a day that's sure to be glorious!
Excellent video...enough motivation to try straight shaving soon...
Hey, I really appreciate your sharing the video. Nice. I'm only two weeks into shaving with a DE, not sure if I'll ever leap to straight razors, but you sure make it look easy.
I see you strop the razor every time you use it.
How often do you have to hone it?
Excellent video, Joel.

What a great video, Joel! I am amazed you fit prep, stropping, lathering, and a straight razor shave into one video.
I'm really interested that you like the simpson 2-bands, especially knowing your opinion on Plisson 2-bands (not worth the money).
What is it about the emperor 2-band that you like, and how would you compare it to a Rooney finest or a Plisson HMW (other than being much more reasonably priced)?
Also a newb straight user question: in your opinion, with a barber hone and cr0x pasted strop, could I get a razor sharp enough (as described in the video), to get a DFS in one pass?

That is an awesome video. I am with the crowd that is in awe of your stropping skills. That was totally fantastic! I could sit there and watch someone strop like that all day.
Thanks!

Nice vid Joel! That Mad Max seems to be a beast!!

Thanks for the response! I've always had a great respect for your eye for quality reflected in your reviews / opinions on many shaving related products.
Again, can't say enough about the video. The "tips" which fade gracefully in and out are probably the best part. It's just so tactful, entertaining and informative. One of the best shaving videos I've watched, period.

That was a quick shave. Quicker than using a cartridge I suspect. Makes me want to go out and get a straight razor![]()

Great shaving video! Really informative & entertaining, thanks!
Can-can scratch patterns!
First off, I believe I am not alone in support of sideburns.
Second, just an incredible video. You not only made a good expository video about hollows v. wedges, but a great video for straights in general.
I really liked the comments, and the video quality (while perhaps not up to your standards) was perfectly clear on my screen. I say put this as a sticky on the straight forum.
Also, I found that the main difference between hollows and wedges was my technique. The wedges seemed a lot more forgiving in shave quality than the hollows. But, once I got the hang of it, they both shave well. Maybe if I had used hollows more in the beginning, my technique would have progressed faster. Oh, well.

Sweet Watch!!!!! Cant quite tell what it is. Bathys? Lum-Tec?
Thanks Joel...I believe watching others do it via video can be more encouraging to some then by a hundred posts of advice!![]()
