My first shave with a slim.....!

Wow, what a great shaver.. I started on 3, used a crystal blade... I think that my Merkurs will be for sale shortly..!

What razors do most slim users prefer, do I need to go through another sample pack to find a new front line blade?

One of my favorite razors also. I don't find it that fussy regarding blades. I've used and liked a Crystal in it. I've also found it to work well with an Astra SP. Currently I use it with a 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (yellow).

I really enjoyed shaving with a Slim. In fact, I think it'll be up in the rotation for tomorrow. I kind of expected the whole adjustable thing to be a bit of a gimmick, but it shaves well and being able to adjust at various times is a nice feature.

I have a 1964 Slim that I don't use too often but enjoy once in a while. Last time I used it I ran it on its highest setting (9 or whatever) with a Lord Platinum and got 4 or 5 really excellent two-pass shaves out of it.

I'm currently infatuated with a couple of gorgeous EverReady SEs and one very grubby and ugly Old Type loaded with a Derby, but I really need to break out that Slim and run another Lord blade through it...

The slim is my go to DE. I like trying out different types of blades with this razor, you can start at 1 and work your way up to the setting that gives the best performance.

I love my Slim and sold all my other razors.

I hated Green Russian Gillette 7'Oclocks in my Super Speeds, but love them in my Slim. I use all my blades in my Slim and they all work great.

Count me in the Slim fan club. I'm still awfully green and have only tried a few razors - I have an EJ86, two flare tip Superspeeds and the Slim - but my Slim is easily my favorite so far. Very easy on my face and gives me a terrific shave. Mine's no beauty to look at but it's a great razor.

I sold off my two other razor's just to run with a slim

Alll my Gillettte adjustables run beautifully with Super Iridiums in them. Oddly, the Slim is the only one I've not tried this blade in. Nevetheless, it's one of my favourite razors!

...so did you change your technique at all with the slim vs a fixed razor..? i.e. if you change the settings, do you change any other aspecy of how you approach the shave?

I loved the slim, but the angle is a little different due to the height of the head because of the doors.

Shaved with an late 60's SS for years, then picked up a slim... Ended up with 3 of them I liked it so much.

I have since gone to using only 3 piece razors because no matter how well built, the doors always seem flimsy to me a and I really hate moving parts.

But as for shaves... The SS got me into DE's when I was eighteen... Only had the SS for ten years. But the Slim got me RAD. The Slim is still there, and I only use it for when I have a blade that doesn't seem to work in anything else. To me, the slim is the least picky of what blades you put in them.

And when someone sparks any interest in DE's (including women) I point out the slim as the way to go.

If a slim is OK with James Bond... Then it is OK with me.

Adjustables, be it a Slim, Fatboy or a Super Adjustable are like having a rotation of razors all in one. They give multi-purpose tools a good name....

Used the other Slim this morning with a Feather set at 4. Really did a nice job with Bigelow shave cream.

Been using my Slim for the past three days with a Feather, although I'm using Astra Platinums as an everyday blade. The Slim is always set on 4. With the Feather I used Speick on day 1, TBS Maca Root on day 2 and KMF Lime today. The KMF provides some real nice slickness to a day-3 blade.

I've had my Slim Adjustable for about 2 months now and I have to say it's one of the more tricky razors to use. For some reason, I find it really hard to get the angle right on this sucker.

Coming from a Merkur Progress which is MUCH milder that the slim, I found the Progress isn't as fussy when it comes to blade angle and much more forgiving of technique.

Comparing the blade exposure visually, it seems as if the blade in the Slim sticks out more squarely from the head so I experience a "scraping" shave, rather than a slicing shave.

Making the angle finer tends to move the blade right off the skin. Result: more nicks and cuts than any razor I've ever used (Merkur Classics, Feathers or the Progress). I'll admit - when she shaves well, it's the smoothest shave I've ever had. But 2 days in a row and my face is hating me...

Progress on 1 easily handles neck hairs ATG. Slim on any setting jags and catches, due to the lightness of touch required. In fact, I can apply more pressure with the Progress so I rarely have problems ATG on the neck (yes, I have thick hair and sensitive skin

).

The Slim is still my daily shaver (I love a challenge) but I like to pull out the Progress from time to time if my face needs a rest.

The angle on the slim is totally different to a Merkur or any other modern razor. You'll get used it to it. If your slim is in proper working order and you put it on a low setting, you should be able to get a very mild shave from it that is very forgiving. Make sure you open the butterfly doors before moving the adjustment knob to change the setting. Also, from the side view, you should be able to see the blade rise above the safety bar as you increase settings. Basically, higher setting=larger gap between the safety bar and the blade. If that's not happening, your slim is probably broken or you are doing something wrong.

Applying pressure on any DE razor is a no no...while you may be able to get away with it sometimes it is just setting you up for bad technique and bad habits that are hard to unlearn.
