Default long time listener, first time caller

Hi all - I've been reading threads here for a while but never posted, so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Rob, and I've been wetshaving for almost a year.

Oddly enough, I got into it because I was getting married. I was researching high and low for the best possible groomsmen gifts when I stumbled upon a suggestion from Art of Manliness that the best gift I could give was the ability to shave like one's grandfather. So, I embarked on a journey of understanding the big deal about wetshaving (buying gear, learning how to use it properly, and then buying starters kits for my groomsmen).

If I had as much free time on my hands as my brother, the unemployed Mr. Imperial (fellow B&B addict), and much more financial free-will from SWMBO, I'd probably have an entire room dedicated to gear. For now, though, I rock a Parker 22R, Tweezerman badger brush, Derby blades, and I switch between Conk Bay Rum soap and Bigelow cream. I'm going antiquing this weekend and really hope for a good find or two before I resort to scouring the Want/Buy/Sell forum. :)

Of the 5 guys in my wedding party, one stopped, one grew a beard (I can't decide whether to take that personally or not), one is a consistent user and sticks mostly with head shaves, and two have acquisition disorder.

So, I'd say I made a bit of an impact. The kits I gave them totaled about $45 each, so at least they weren't gigantic investments, but simply contained a Parker 22R, some moderately crappy blades (didn't know at the time), and an old-school Burma-Shave mug and brush set.

I had been in most of their weddings, actually, and mostly received pocket knife-type gifts (except for my brother, who gave me a boomerang from Australia), so it was awesome seeing their reactions when they saw how much effort I put into giving them a life-long experience rather than just a tool.

Assuming you're talking about Bob & Tom? Yessir, I used to listen to them every single day when I worked in a paint warehouse in Lima, OH. Only thing that kept me sane.

    Welcome!

So how many of your groomsmen got hooked?
Everett: Hold on, now. I don't want this pomade. I want Dapper Dan.

Clerk: I don't carry Dapper Dan. I carry Fop.

Everett: Well, I don't want Fop, goddammit! I'm a Dapper Dan man.
