    Default Hello Fellow Shavers

    Well I would like to say out loud HELLO to one and all . I’m a Newbie as you say and would like to give a little personnel account of products I have and products I’m getting etc. I have been practicing with a BIC single blade razor and would recommend all newbie’s to try the cheap and most available single blade razor around.

    First of I have;
    3 Gillette Safety Razors F3, Z3 & K4 (To practice with)
    1 Gillette Slim Adjustable Safety Razor M-4 (To see how the adjustable works)
    1 Merkur 11C HD Safety Razor, Open Tooth (See what a close shave comb will Do)
    1 Merkur 37C Heavy Duty Safety Razor, Slant Bar ( See what happens when you warp a razor )

    Also
    Hagern Soap (that’s all that was available in Rock Hill SC )
    Hagen Brush (that’s all that was available in Rock Hill SC)
    Lush Razorantium ( I’m a lush addict)
    Lush Shave the Planet ( I’m a lush addict)
    (And lots of other lush stuff )

    Okay well starting by reviewing your forum for helpful advice like the mantic info etc. This was good info. I decided to buy lots of razors and (er well um ) try them. I will sell off whatever I don’t want.

    Practicing with the bic was invaluable and helped with light holding pressure, head angle and so on. But actually I went in to DE shaving because I have thick curly hair and problems with razor rash and ingrown hair. In fact enough neck issues from a mach 3 razor to start using the bic and then a DE.

    After I watched all the mantic videos I then webt to shaving101.com and watched the video were Charles Roberts is demonstrating his products on himself. Yes I have purchased some products and I’m still waiting for he Products I purchase;

    HydroLast Wet Shaving Paste - Unscented 4oz tub
    Hydrolast Shave Cube - Olive Oil, 400gr block
    HydroLast Cutting Balm - Sandalwood 4oz
    HydroLast Aftershave Conditioner - Unscented
    Hydrolast Shave Cloth
    Hydrolast Activator - 8oz pump bottle

    (This is only an observation my opinion not a criticism no harm intended and please don’t take offence don't beet on the newbie )
    is there any reason for Charles Roberts to use tool room or car or welding analogies for his products? E.G Slag arc welding (which comes from process of welding) Also from melting metal slag is produce on top of the metal that is melting. Also e.g. recharge a battery terminology or Manifold from a car. Also using primer for soap instead of shaving soap and velocity (a terminology used for something moving) e.g My razors velocity is measured at 150 mph which should sound more like friction reducing so the paste would be friction reducing paste e.g. the velocity is so high that the blade is tripping ( tripping is what happens when one partakes in narcotics like acid ( who me officer no I was told that by my science teacher sir ) vs the friction on your skin is reduced to the point that the blade is sliding over the hair follicles unable to cut the hair ( but the way he says it, has much more ooommmmmppphhh so it really interesting).

    I think this is an excellent presentation and I have purchased the products so once again please don’t get me wrong. It’s an Americanized presentation, but the observations are because, I’m from an engineering background and it seems just a little strange to hear analogies I’ve heard used with other connotations, not in an engineering sense (well I’m British so what do you expect , oh I didn’t mention that).

    Any way I thought I would do my own system as they say (just like a newbie off into a tangent without any knowledge or?). Well it wouldn’t be the first time an invention doesn’t quite work as described by the inventor. Is it the water that makes the difference a lot of effort is placed into this but no scientific evidence is readily available one way or any way described? Also any one had a wet shave and avoided using water? What about using shaving soap and shaving etc?

    So is it really friction and lubrication ( or velocity and the blade tripping my interpretation of what is giving a good shave) well I decided to use olive oil cold pressed, shave the planet by lush and hagen soap and brush . I started out with doing the normal wetting the brush the added some oil (or Cutting Balm) and added some shave the planet to my face for the cutting effect with hot towel first and adding water (also some lemony cuticle butter before the shave the planet why I don't know its supposed to soften cuticles and my face needs softening so it should) . Applied the soap foam to my face and started doing my own Charles Roberts impression ( Stupid newbie cut himself to bits Charles is an expert with a de and demonstrations) Yes I used a new feather blade just like he says don’t try this without a feather blade so first form stretch the mix ( Mix didn’t stretch that good) first form ( more mix ) first form ( wow I was flying no fear) well was may be okay with about 5 passes ( see I told you newbie had hamburger face ) .

    Okay form 2-3 now using shave the planet and oil and water (what this boys a succor for punish ). Yes I repeatedly shaved those forms 5 times especially problem areas and stretching the mix and water and more mix applied. (well I guess this newbie now will have to rest his face for next week ) Actually not a bad shave a DFS shave and I rinsed my face with warm then some cool water, applied some shave the planet cream to my face and used some cosmetic lad as well and no razor rash well I felt really good .

    These lush cosmetics that I use can leave the face like you never even had razor burn. As when using the bic for the first time I over did the pressure at first when finished sat down and thought my neck is raw put some cosmetic lad on (a good helping) and it was good in five minutes no more pain at all.

    Well I have said my piece and thanks for reading. I hope no one is offended and all is just tongue in cheek humor.

    Does anyone know why if you buy cutting paste in grades (like the video) there are no grades on the site? (enchanteonline and grades 1 2 3 etc).

    Does anyone have actual figurative drawings for something like a 1904 or any razor? 2d or 3d cad models etc"?

    I was thinking of making my own stainless steel razor. I can draw it out in cad 3d, then I will see a machine shop etc. But this can prove to be expensive so I want to get the drawing correct.

    The reason is I see "Ikons razors "and well after reading the info its plain to see for me. The design looks like a knock off of a Gillette old style razor. The price has inflated because it’s being made outside of America and the order has to be big to get a good price.

    That being said I would like to try, who knows what will happen. I really don’t want to mass produce any razors but a hand full or so would be nice.

    Thanks

    Steve O

    Welcome to B&B!

    I have not searched for drawings, so I cannot be of help there.
    You could probably have one blueprinted yourself.
