Thread: sticky strop

    Default sticky strop

    the leather strop i have feels sticky. is there anything i can do to make my straight razor slide across it with less resistance?

    I assume you mean it feels sticky when you strop, rather than when you just touch it.

    if so, thats draw - i believe you can use saddle soap to reduce draw, but im not sure

    yeah, thats right. it feels sticky when i strop. not to the touch...

    its meant to do that - though some guys like a low draw strop

    I had always had quite low draw strops, but recently got one with stacks of draw and am growing to love it.

    I've had success with playing with boot polish to reduce the drag whilst stropping, Good quality blacking in a tin (ie, Kiwi brand shoe-polish) rather then the crappy liquid inna tube. Polish to reduce drag/stickyness and Leather Conditioner (I generally use Saddle oil for this) to build it back up, With these two things, I've managed to adjust the draw somewhat to my liking on my strops.

    Mind you, I don't know how the blacking affects my stropping, it certainly doesn't seem to affect it Too badly.
    I'm so bent, that only my Razors are Straight.
