    Default Shave around the mole?

I am expecting the set I ordered from Tony Miller to arrive some time this week and hope to have my first straight razor shave Saturday morning. This is probably a really stupid question, but here goes anyway. I have a small mole on my neck, that 99% of the time with my DE I shave right over with no problems. With the straight, should I carefully shave around it or is it possible to shave over it? I have visions of slicing it off with a subsequent B-movie blood bath .

I actually shaved right over a pimple today, so I doubt that the mole will be a problem. Be careful though, as your new at this.

I have a mole on my cheek. No razor I've used -- cartridge, DE, straight -- has ever nicked it.

i have a mole on the side of my neck'ish area. small one but still there.

my 5/8 and 6/8 straight go over it no problem.. but when i use my 7/8 or 8/8 i have removed that mole a couple of times. probably due to the weight of the razor and the momentum it generates.

so be aware that its there and go gently.

and yes, it likes to bleed when removed.

    Default Whoa there fellas..

    Hey man,

Before you start tearing ass with your straight over the mole, it really depends on the mole, now doesn't it? If it is the flat sort, then by all means shave over it...however, my mole is under my ear lobe by about 1 1/2" really on the corner of my jaw, and I just sliced the &*^% out of it several weeks ago...

It stands up a little, but not alot, and every other razor I had went right over it, right? No way, I cut that bugger with the closest shave you ever saw, like cutting winter wheat at the ground, probably in half...bled all over the place, ruined an otherwise very enjoyable and successful shave. Got blood all over my nice little Dovo too...styptic work? Not on your life, need a suture - all I had was direct pressure and wad of tissue!

My advice is to avoid like plague, pluck the hairs from it if you have them and can, and move on with your laceration free shave...YMMV.

Edit: Oh, by the way, hello folks, just going back to lurking now...

An excellent point, Kriton. Not all moles are created equal. So far, mine's remained relatively flat, so it's easy for the razor to skate over it. But if you've got a big, fat, round, mature one like my father's , it would make sense to steer clear of it when shaving.

I would go to the dermatologist and have it taken off. Then you won't have to worry about it.
