Default Never Shave While Stressed or Distracted

So today, I replaced my blade for the first time. I started shaving Christmas day and I have had a BBS shave ever since I began, but decided to replace the blade even though it hasn't caused me any irritation or diminished shave quality yet. Unfortunately, I was thinking about all the papers and reading I have due this week and so I was stressed and distracted. I cut myself three times. 1/4" lac behind the ear, a nick on the mustache line, and, here's the winner, a 1/2" laceration just under the chin. I could actually see the blade pass into the skin and bury itself there.

Lesson learned: Never shave while stressed or distracted.

LOL I know what you mean... phone is ringing, kids banging on my bedroom door "what are you doing daddy, we wanna come in", throwing toys down the stairs, chasing the dog, etc... I get my fair share LOL! The funny thing is, the second I open the door or I finish shaving, it gets quiet...

Or if you have had a little too stiff of a drink ;)

Bummers. I have noticed if I shave after drinking coffee on an empty stomach (Saturday mornings), my hands are very unsteady. This leads to a precarious shave. Usually I end up alright though.

How many shaves did you use the first blade for? Even if you can't tell, blades dull pretty quickly. I'd toss them after 3-4 shaves max.

If I can't tell, then I don't see why I should toss them. I think this blade had around 14 shaves logged. It would have had more, but I dropped it while I was cleaning my razor and decided just to pitch it anyway.

First good nick cut happened when I was trying to talk on my cellphone speaker phone when shaving. Not a great idea

I've been DE shaving for a little under two weeks now. My shave last night was going great, probably one of the best yet, that was until my fiancee appeared at the bathroom door holding the phone with my mother on the other end. In my haste to get finished up, I gave myself a nick on the neck and a nice 2cm vertical slice above my top lip. She hadn't even phoned for anything important.

I got my first STR8 cut last night when my wife started telling me to hurry up or I'd be late for my first adult education class. Not too bad, 1/4 slight cut on my neck, but yeah, distractions while shaving are not a good thing.

    Agreed.

Sunday morning: the girlfriend wakes me up to say we have to leave for Toronto in 20 minutes.
There was no way I would drive 4 1/2 hours with stubble. Wearing trackpants, yes. Stubble, no.

DE shave in less than 10 minutes. My neck is still recovering...

before very careful loading vintage SEs (open comb), if you don't get both tips of razor under the end hooks, you have a dangerous weapon in your hands and will have a scar worthy of a tale tell

    Fourteen shaves? That's nuts.

I was thinking the same thing! Are you sure you weren't rubbing the whiskers off?

Actually, I attribute it to having used a Fusion ever since I was old enough to shave and running those cartridges into the ground (they were so expensive, I felt bad about my parents spending money on them- I would probably use the same cartridge for 6 months-1 year). Therefore, I think it's really that I've just lost the feeling in my face.

My guess is you have a very light beard? Even if you can't feel it, you're probably scraping the hell out of your face. Change those blades, they're cheap! No reason to try to get that many shaves out of them.

Wow, 14 shaves! Glad that you didn't get any irritation before the cuts after blade change.

I sympathize on the cuts. It's amazing how just one millisecond of inattention can result in a nice slice to the chin or upper lip. I have yet to find a good way to stop the bleeding, too... the alum block doesn't seem to do much for me other than cause burning pain on those cuts.
