What Are You Reading?

I just finished 'Shogun' by James Clavell. Very catchy book with a lot of interesting facts about Japan history and their way of thinking. I believe that 'Shogun' story line and characters gave me a better understanding of what I red in 'A Book of Five Rings'. I recommend it a lot.

Now I am keen to finish all Asian Saga books by James Clavell

I enjoyed both of those books as well. Most of my interest comes through my love of the martial arts. But I believe most people will enjoy them and get something out of them.

If you liked The Book of Five Rings you should check out The Art of War if you haven't already. I think it should be required reading for everyone.

Just finished A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain - freaking love this book and will definitely read it again.

Currently reading A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. I'm thoroughly fascinated by astronomy and astrophysics. I'll have to read this twice so I don't miss anything :001_tongu

I enjoy checking this thread occasionally for new reading ideas. Thanks to everyone who contributes.

I've been all over the place lately:

The Help by Kathyrn Stockett
Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by
John Boyne

I also recently finished the Hunger Games trilogy.

I highly recommend Master and Margarita for anyone looking for an absurd, amusing and fantastical novel which can be read on many levels.

I just finished "A Dirty Job" by Christopher Moore. Been awhile since I read some of his works - may have to revisit "Fool" and "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal"

Got an email from the library that "Blood Sucking Fiends" is ready to be picked up, so that is next in line.

Anything by Christopher Moore is a winner to me. Tim, make sure you read the vampire series from him in order. It'll still make sense, but you'll find out things way ahead of time if you don't read them in order.

I'm working my way through the Walking Dead comics. After that, it's either Watchmen or Sin City graphic novels.

Finished (another long slog that) King's 11/22/63 last evening. An entertaining read, albeit a lengthy one ..

Next some quickies, I have Patterson's Private: #1 Suspect as well as the latest Harry Bosch The Drop just picked up at the library ..

Just finishing an interesting pop history of radio: SOMETHING IN THE AIR: RADIO, ROCK, AND THE REVOLUTION THAT SHAPED A GENERATION, by Marc Fisher of the Washington Post

For a real hoot (make sure you pee before you read this one) THE REAL ANIMAL HOUSE, by Chris Miller (one of the three writers of the original movie script, and the inspiration for the character, Pinto)

On the series side: Going Down Jericho Road, by Michael Honey, Ph.D., a compelling account of the Memphis sanitation workers strike (1968), at which Martin Luther King was murdered.

Happy booking!
Porcine

I just finished reading Hellhound on his Trail - which is the story of the manhunt for MLK's killer. Very interesting background, and deals with the Memphis sanitation workers a bit.

I am now reading a book about Isaac Newtowns later career as a counterfeit investigator.

Discovered this thread after long absence on the forum - very inspirational!
Currently many books "in process" - for various moods:
Letters of Evelyn Waugh /ed. by Mark Amory/
Ian Ker - J.H.Newman
A.Stieglitz- Camera Work (ed. Taschen) - yes, I admit, it is mostly pictures..
And some others I do not recall at the moment.

Been a while since I posted. I read a few Kindle Singles:
The Moonlit Mind by Dean Koontz http://www.amazon.com/Moonlit-Mind-Suspense-Kindle-ebook/dp/B0061C1NCK/ref=zg_bs_2486013011_3
Mile 81 by Stephen King http://www.amazon.com/Mile-81-Kindle-Single-ebook/dp/B005COO1X6/ref=zg_bs_2486013011_4
Playbook 2012 by Politico http://www.amazon.com/Playbook-2012-Politico-Election-ebook/dp/B005S6VN70/ref=zg_bs_2486013011_56
The Koontz book was the best in the bunch.

I also read:
Heat Wave by Richard Castle http://www.amazon.com/Heat-Wave-Nik...?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1327453093&sr=1-1
If you like the tv show, I am sure that you would enjoy the book as well - follows the same structure.
I also read The Shack by William P. Young (again) http://www.amazon.com/The-Shack-ebo...?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1327453339&sr=1-1 If you enjoy Christian books, the shack is worth your time.

Just finished Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing. Amazing story of survival and ingenuity in the face of long, long odds encountered on an Antarctic expedition nearly a hundred years ago. Loved it.
