Was checking something out on walmart.com and found this: VIOlight Razor Sanitizer. Thought it was interesting. I know some here have expressed skepticism over Barbicide and the like. Would this be an effective means of sanitation?

looks like a tanning bed (or coffin) for razors![]()
Could be. I believe that's the way my barber's electric clippers get treated.

That's great for the barbers, but do you really need such a thing at home? In most cases its just you using the razor. A Hot water rinse and some scrubbing bubbles a couple times a year seem to do it for me. That's a whole lot cheaper than $29.95. But I guess if you feel you need it, its available.![]()

It seems to me that for UV light to work as a sterilizer, it would require the razor to be completely disassembled, and the parts turned over halfway through to ensure that all sides are treated.
With Barbicide or other liquid treatments, it reaches all parts of the razor, even inside.

If you have that on your razor you have issues that need to be addressed. That or you need to keep your razor out of the toilet.

I was thinking that as well. Plus, UV light takes a long time to work even when it's high power. No one uses UV light to sterilize anything. Also, I question how so weak of a UV light source will do anything, I am 90+% sure it wouldn't. We used to use them to clean our goggles in our chemistry classes in high school, but it was with a much higher power lamp and it had to be on for at least an hour. It's a gimmick, just like the ones they sell for toothbrushes. And at the same time, I can't help but want one...

I got news for you, that stuff is probably on your toothbrush already along with fecal coliform. Test your stuff you would be suprised what is floating around in you bathroom and kitchen."Eliminates E. Coli, salmonella and other dangerous microorganisms"

I had a 40watt uv steralizer for my aquarium. You have to change the bulb pretty frequently as the uv waves degrade with time. If you don't change the bulb the germs don't get dead

And guess what? Masses of people are not getting sick because of that!
From what I know about UV light it does work. UV is a part of the light spectrum that comes from the sun and sunlight does act as a sort of sterilizer. But for artificial UV light to work it takes a powerful intensity and probably more time than that gadget provides. And I find it dubious that my razor needs daily sterilization.
