Hello everyone, my name is Scottie and I am very happy to be here. I have been active on a lot of cigar boards for the past few years but this is my first non-cigar forum. I got interested in wetshaving about a year ago and started reading about it. My interest stems from general disgust about the rising cost of cartridge razors and the lack of a good quality shave. I still remember my grandfather using a badger brush and cake soap when I was a youngster and it has always been appealing to me as a ritual.
I have 2 DE razors that will never get used, one was my dad's (he passed away when I was 3 back in 1972) and one is my wife's grandfather's razor (a gold TTO). I recently jumped in and bought some beginner stuff and have been using it for a week or so. I travel every week for work so I got a Merkur travel DE and some soaps, mug and a beginner brush (all from Colonel Conk). I am still getting used to it but find the shave still beats the old way plus bay rum smells better than barbasol. I do not think that the travel is the razor for me so my next purchase may be a long-handle Merkur or the Parker TTO HD and am willing to take any advice on either of those. I look forward to reading a lot and learning a lot and expanding my collection. I am actually looking forward to hitting the antique shops where I live to look for DE safety razors from days gone by.
