What's new

My Guess... 3017

Ok, calling it quits on the Mama Bear as the last broken pieces got washed down the drain. Not sure what I'm going to tackle next, since I've had a lot of new artisan soap acquisitions that I want to get acquainted with before settling down on one soap again.

My Mike's Lily of the Valley refuses to die. It's lasted so long I'm starting to get an itch for something else. I think my next soap will be a sample size of Stirling Lime. That way it won't last so long.

Unacceptably Lasering Chicken Giblets?
I finished my huge chunk of P.160 and a puck of Stirling that was unmarked.
Just started a bar of Mikes Lavandin and Eucaliptus.
It was a good shave.
My chunk of the P.160 was 173 grams and I didn't think I would ever finish it.
The Stirling took about 3 weeks.

The Harris Lavender I started on Feb. 1 is almost done...hoping to get 112 shaves out of it to match the dry weight in grams before I started. Shave number 108 this morning.

strop

Now half as wise
The little bits of soap became too hard to chase around the bowl. Trumpers is officially done. 55 shaves/75 grams of soap. As I mentioned in a couple of other posts, this gave much better rsults than I had anticipated based on reading about it. I did lather it on the puck a lot, which is my standard approach to sub par soaps, finishing on the face. Even with my very soft water, I needed more soap than usual. I might consider trying this again with a fresh puck, just to experience the scent, since this had none, but that will likely be in 2018 when I might have to buy more soap.

I couldn't find the Provence Sante in my stash. I may have given it to my son at some point. I had a nice puck of something called Ile de Provence. Can't remember where it came from. Turns out it is clearly not shaving soap, even if it was supposed to be. Lather disappeared before I could even get to the other side of my face. It now resides in the shower and we'll see how it does. Something tells me it was supposed to be used the the Musgo as a preshave face wash. We shall see.

So in keeping with the theme, out came the Pre de Provence. This tin had 2 or 3 shaves on it from a before the 3017 started, but I could still read the imprinting on the puck. Like all new pucks it will take a few days to get it well hydrated and the intricacies worked out.

The Journey continues.

Arlington (80+%) 8 Oct 2012 to 13 Jan 2013 Note there were 4 travel shaves and about 10 shaves finishing a tub of Mr. Taylor's Cream.
TFS Rose (32g) 14 Jan 2013 to 31 Jan 2013
Valobra stick (51g) 1 Feb 2013 to 6 March 2013
Haslinger Coconut (60g) 7 March 2013 to 26 April 2013
Arlington Cream (weight tbd) 27 March to 10 Aug 2013 Used to make superlather. Especially nice with AOS Unscented
AOS tallow unscented added (75g) 8 May to 18 July 2013 61 shaves, taking out the days I was traveling
QCS Vostok 19 July 2013 to 4 Sept 2013 (44 shaves)
Valobra Menthol 5 Sept 2013 to 12 Oct 2013 33 shaves. The rest were travel days.
Tabac 13 Oct 2013 to 31 Dec 2013 77+ shaves. There were 2 or 3 left that got moved to the Frankensoap tub.
AOS Sandalwood (new formula) 1 Jan 2014 to 14 April 2014 92 shaves
Trumpers Violet 15 April 2014 to 12 June 2014 55 shaves/75 grams of soap
Pre de Provence 13 June 2014 to ???

My RR Mudder Focker sample should be done tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to using a full tub.

But until then, my RR Moroccan Secret has a week or so left. Once it's completed, I have decided to try the new RR P.160 and see how it goes.

It's strongly scented but apparently hypo-allergenic, so as long as there is no scent irritation (fingers crossed), it will be my next victim....unless I change my mind between now and next week, which has happened before :001_rolle

This morning I tried my sample of 3P from the block I received via a kind B&B member.

Good news is that it lathers very well, comparative to Cella or the other Italian soft soaps.

Bad news is that I didn't even shave with it. Once I applied it to my face it was the itch and burn show, so I'm reacting to something in it. Most likely it's benzaldehyde, or the sweet almond oil used as the perfuming agent.

Looks like I have to root through my stash and set aside the jar of 3P from the block and anything else that might have that oil in it and send it to the trade pile. :mad3:

"Got Shoes?"
You're making me regret my decision to 3017 the Captain Fawcett's. Suffice it to say the lather looks nothing like that.

I took out the boar today which I had not used in ages. The lather it generated was utterly awesome. So awesome in fact, that I had to photograph it for posterity. :thumbup1:

Thanks again to Bob (beginish) for finding this NOS.

I've been taking a break from 3017'ing, I had a bunch of samples that were PIF'ed to me that I've been working on. I've also been using some loaner soaps. One of the loaner soaps is a puck of vintage C&E For Men shaving soap. I used it this morning and all I can say is wow! It's a wonderful soap, and the scent is fantastic.

Tomorrow C&E vintage Sandalwood followed by Harris Sandalwood splash and MGP Santal, then I will take over the world.
