My Guess... 3017

All of this DR Harris talk........

Marlborough is still going strong- I can't remember my last sub-par lather and I have used nothing but Harris soaps in 2013.

All of this DR Harris talk........

We really need to get one of the B&B interns to go through this thread and list the amount of times a certain soap has been given the 3017 treatment to completion.

I'd love to see what the members in this thread are using most. Harris would probably come out on top, and then probably Tabac.......... then maybe SCS mostly on account of Brian:laugh:
But, it would be interesting to see a full breakdown of which soaps have seen their demise in this thread, it should give us some idea of which soaps are actually being used and which are actually worth using to the end.

All we need to do now is track down those darn lazy interns, can someone check the clown house? If they're not in the clown house, they're usually looking for scraps over in the mess hall:lol:

JohnnieGold did that one week in the SOTD thread many years ago.. it was pretty illuminating.

Thanks for the idea, a quick search brought up that quote from 2007.

Very interesting, also very different than what we would see today I think.
I was just curious, as well as a little bored and this is the way the shaving creams/soaps broke down this past week. Very interesting. If you superlathered I counted them both:

1. QED (25)
2. T&H (15)
3. TOBS (14)
4. Tabac (12)
5. Trumper (10)
6. DR Harris (9)
7. Nancy Boy (9)
8. MB (9)
9. SCS (9)
10. Proraso (8)
11. C&E (7)
12. Salters (7)
13. HBS (6)
14. Williams (6)
15. Penhaligon's (5)
16. Tom's (5)
17. JM Fraser (5)
18. Col. Conk (4)
19. Palmolive (4)
20. Floris (3)
21. L'Occitane (3)
22. Coates (3)... you know who you are. :glare:
23. Speick (3)
24. AOS (3)
25. Musgo Real (3)
26. CF (3)
27. Em's (2)
28. Tabula Rasa (2)
29. eshave (2)
30. Plisson (2)
31. La Toja (2)
32. TGQ (2)

All of these used once:

De Vergulde Hand (thank you very much)
Tyrwhitt
Mitchells
Derby
Molle
Weleda
Florena
Ingram
Joris
KMF
Pre de Provence
Gisele
Ltlsuz
LEA
Lush barbiere de ces villes (how can I get some when I can't even say it? )

I think the biggest or most obvious difference from that count and what we are seeing in this thread recently is the virtual disappearance of the three Ts along with Mama Bear soaps, and that only one person was using MWF!

Great post---very, very telling.

Anybody remember what HBS is? I don't recognize it.

Sounds like a challenge...I'll go ahead and compile when people FINISH soaps, and not just samples, actual soaps or creams.

I'm through 2010 already, so if anyone else wants to go ahead and start in 2013 or something...and work backwards?

9/16/13-9/23/13 Antica Barbiera Bitter Almond 1/2 oz Sample, 11 shaves; 8 face, 3 head, a day or two of Kyle's prep. Nothing special.

9/24/13-10/23/13: Mitchell's Wool Fat 1/2 oz sample: 35 shaves; 8 head, 27 face, 3 passes. I can't believe how long the sample lasted. Head and shoulders above all my other soaps so far. Will buy again.

10/24/13-10/27/13: did not shave

10/28/13-11/3/13: TOBS Sandlewood cream, 1/2 oz sample: 7 days, 7 shaves all face. Very nice scent, excellent cream but I'm not a cream guy. Might try the soap one day.

11/4/13-12/10/13: Cella 1/2 oz sample: 29 shaves. Very good, easy to lather, nice slickness and cushion Scent is just ok. Second to MWF

12/11/13-???: Mike's Lily of the Valley sample

I enjoy reading this thread and I'm going to give 3017 another try. I'm starting with a soft soap, Stirling Tuscany. Before tonight it had been used 7 or 8 times.

Die La Toja ist tot. Time to move on to something else. I'm going to finish up a puck of Stirling's Scot's Pine. Here's to great shaves!

24 May 2013 - 22 June 2013: DR Harris Arlington
23 June 2013 - 18 July 2013: DR Harris Arlington/CO Bigelow
19 July 2013 - 22 July 2013: SCS Bay Rum sample
23 July 2013 – 26 July 2013: Barrister and Mann Seville sample
27 July 2013 – 3 September 2013: RR KotC Lime
4 September 2013 – 27 September 2013: Stirling Anise
28 September 2013 – 30 September 2013: Stirling Lavender Sage sample
1 October 2013 – 15 October 2013: RazoRock Chianti Lavender
16 October 2013 – 7 November 2013: RazoRock XXX
8 November 2013 – 9 December 2013: 2 grated La Toja sticks
10 December 2013 - ??: Stirling Scot's Pine

One dead La Toja deserves another. I killed mine over the weekend.

??-??-???? to 01-27-2013 - RazoRock XXX
01-28-2013 to 07-12-2013 - Cella red tub
*mystery PIF soap interlude*
08-01-2013 to 09-28-2013 - Acqua di Parma
*shave sample interlude*
10-20-2013 to 12-07-2013 - La Toja shave stick

I just started a new tub of Cella and I'm committed to killing it faster than the tub that wouldn't die earlier in the year. This is also the last soap in my 3017 stash. When the 2013 sabbatical is over I'm going to load up on Windsor, Arlington, a Cella brick, and some other odds and ends to get me through 2014.

I started reading this thread about two weeks into the sabbatical and I've been lusting after a Fifty series Simpsons brush ever since. I have a Duke 3 and I'd like something with a small knot and bigger handle, so it's a toss-up between the 56 and 57, leaning towards the 56.

Mar 2010 - Sep 2012 = 50 pages
Oct 2012 - Dec 2013 = 70 pages

At this rate we'll get another 100 pages next year alone!

Up to 122 3017's so far.

I've been using the Pannacream Nostalgia all week. What a nice lather this makes. If this were easier to order and the shipping charges weren't so over the top, Pannacrema would be vying for my favorite. As it is, I can get great lathers with other soaps (Harris, Stirling, MW, Mikes, QCS...) that are less drama to obtain. Nice experiment and I would recommend everyone try one if they get the chance but...

^ I have a feeling my Panna will be my next soap to get the 3017 treatement, once I'm done 50g of the "donkey soap" which is still going strong.

I will transer the Panna into my soap dish, as I think the container is too small to load.
