My Guess... 3017

How many shaves do you estimate you got out of a jar of MdC?

Without going back to check, I would say that I started with the soap in May. I shave almost every day and I have used MdC for each shave during that period of time. Rough reckoning would give approximately 150 shaves from a jar of soap.

Sooooooo...... hypothetically, being slow, how many shaves should one get from a puck of D.R. Harris Arlington? :whistling:

Not sure.. I am 47 shaves into a Prorasso green and I can't see the bottom yet. I guess that it will last until November 10 or so (68 shaves total). I know the Arlington is legendary in this thread - there seem to be some that can destroy it in no time and there was (at least) one person that seemed to be able to make it last seemingly forever. It seemed to have lasted so long I wonder if shaving gnomes were sneaking in at night to top off the soap dish? :001_unsur

I started wet shaving in May and have only used creams an soft soaps so far my consumption estimates are likely way off, but just happen to have some D.R. Harris Arlington so I will put that in the queue right after I finish the MdC Fougère. (in the name of science and all :001_smile)

It will be a challenge for me to use something that will last exactly the right number of shaves so I can start the MdC on Feb 1. I don't want to break my 3017 streak, but I would also like to start on time.

Ruckin.

I normally go to a shave stick buffet to fill the gap when prepping for a group start, like the February 1 DR Harris, or October 1 Punkin Fest. I'll likely do the same thing if I join the MdC 3017 next year.

Well, wrapped up the SCS Pumpkin yesterday with yet another fantastic shave.

I'm kicking off not only a new soap, but also a throwback, single setup through the end of the year. I'll be using my British HD Rocket, Super Iridium blades, and the Klenzo restore in my avatar every day for the rest of the year.

The soap? I Coloniali Mango; first shave with it this morning, and it's an instant hit for me. Absolutely fantastic lather and post-shave face feel. and this is coming on the heels of the stellar performance of the SCS.

I forgot to scale the puck before I dampened it and stuck it to the bottom of the bowl, so I recorded the weight of the whole shebang. Looking forward to this one, and I can already tell I'll be ordering a replacement puck for this one.

I scoffed at those who burned through a puck of Mike's in 30 shaves, yet here is my puck after 25 shaves in my 3017 journey (probably 5-10 shaves with it prior to 3017'ing it). I don't see it lasting through the week...

Congrats to you!!

We had our third two weeks ago today. My first boy!

Sort of on this subject and of products lasting a loong time, I decided when he was born to grow a full beard to have some fun pictures for my kids to look back at when they're grown up just like the ones I remember when I was a little kid. Anyway, shaving just my neck and trimming my cheek line the RR King Louis Lavender I just started is going to last until well past my decision to remove the beard.

Also, I don't like the smell of baby powder but really have been looking forward to someday trying Schafmilch. Bummer for me but hopefully I'd be able to get past the scent.

Well I finished RR Mudder Focker today I got 49 shaves out of it.

9/01 - 10/20 RR Mudder Focker = 49 shaves

I'm going back to samples and using some soap I haven't shaved with for awhile then I'll probably 3017 another RR soap.

I am going to finish a sample of Stirling Tea tree from beginning to end and the rest of a TOBS Jermyn street cream tub and a puck of VDH deluxe.

Tabac is nearly done as the hole is about half the size of the bowl bottom. I used my silvertip today and wasn't able to load as much as I want. Tomorrow it will be boar.

I am a week into 3017'ing 75-80% of a bowl of Tabac and loving it. I'm glad to hear it does eventually get used up. I don't see any progress at all in the first week.

I really enjoyed Mudder Focker. The shaves were consistent on ever shave and I used hard water and soft with different load times. The scent lasted until the last few shaves. I highly recommend it if ya haven't tried it.

I will get it and Don Marco again sometime in the future but for now I want to finish up other soaps & creams.

A question for all of you: who would you say are the quickest product-user-uppers of the thread? I know that speed is not the goal of everybody. I'm just curious as to how fast the quickest soap assassins go.

Today I finished round 2 through the Musgo sampler. Lavender is still my favorite but I don't think I like any of the scents enough to buy a whole tube. By the way, Classic was second, Lime Basil a distant third, Orange Amber and Spiced Citrus tied for fourth, and Oak Moss was last. On to a sample of Maggard's Mango Sage Tea tomorrow.

edit: changing timeline to combine all samples instead of listing separately.

7/19/14-9/18/14 Crabtree & Evelyn Nomad soap (27 previous uses, 79 total)
9/19/14-9/30/14* 3" tin Petal Pusher Fancies Cucumber (13 previous uses, *paused to be finished next spring)
10/1/14-10/7/14 La Toja stick/PannaCrema Namaste mix
10/8/14-________ samples

I have at tub in the den and look forward to using it.

Some say I use them up quickly but we have hard water. I will say this, I don't hold back on loading but don't overload on purpose. I'm just happy my shaves have improved since adopting the 3017 method.

10 shaves into my tub of T&H Rose cream and I am doing ok so far. I absolutely love the scent but I am not getting anywhere close to the performance of the small sampler pack that I had used previously. With that said, I am only using 1 gram of product per shave so I will be doubling (tripling, quadrupling) my rate. Hopefully, that should address the average performance I am experiencing.
