What's new

My Guess... 3017

I have a couple that I'm not all that excited about, and a few that I am. My inclination is to get through the ones I'm least excited about first to get them out of the way.
That's what I did until I joined this thread. When I took a photo of my line up, I realized I have soaps and creams bought more than a year ago. I used them a few times then, loved the performance and so decided to 'save' the better ones for later. I still have a few mediocre creams but have decided not to go back to my old habits of finishing those first.
My suggestion-pick one you're excited about and go for it. As for over analyzing, I'm only 3 shaves into my Razorock Lavender and am already trying to decide whether to use MWF or Valobra next:laugh:.

Enjoyed face lathering the Maca Root cream again this weekend, but still don't have the ideal brush for it. The Muhle 25mm made quite the mess as it doesn't hold water very well and the TGN Finest was nice but I got a bit of brush burn.

Nearly three weeks in and my cream tub has a sizable dip in the middle.

I cheated today. I have been giving a tub of TOBS Lavender cream the 3017 treatment the past few weeks. TOBS creams are fine, I don't love em in general but they certainly perform well. I don't care for the "purple haze" lavender scent and would just as soon get this one over with. I live in the frozen north and it has been cold and snowy the past couple weeks. Of the past 2 weeks I have spent a total of 8 days at my north woods cottage chasing the wiley white tailed deer with a firearm in hopes of supplying the family with plenty of raw red meat. Which means I have spent several days with my face getting blasted by cold winds. As a general rule I don't shave during hunting season. This morning I was returning to normal civilization and just couldn't bare the thought of putting purple haze on my wind bitten face. So I sug out a tin of Mikes Rose and Cedar as my dry face was craving some lanolin.

My goodness I had almost forgotten how good Mikes is especially during the winter months. Right up there with MWF for me. Tomorrow I will go back to TOBS Lavender and try to kill it off before Thanksgiving on 11/27. I just needed to confess todays sin. Tho I may have just picked my next 3017 victim....possibly Mikes Rose and Cedar which happens to be one of my favorite rose scents.

Cheers!

Thanks for the tip, Aaron.

Mike's is up next for me, and the I Coloniali Mango likes a dry(er) brush and adding water, so I would have started the Mike's the same way. I'll go wetter when I get there!
You're welcome, Jay. I hope it works for you.

Cade is dialed in. Even shaved XTG without any irritation. After a few times of that I might even try ATG.

The soap really softens up with consistent use. It's already about the consistency of Arko.

My MF is still hanging on but difficult to lather. It's soft and the consistency hasn't moving around in the tub, large portions shifting and getting dislodged.

Another week or so, then it'll be done. Shaves have all been awesome but looking forward to tackling a new one.

Bruce, are you keeping it covered between shaves? Wondering if it'd dry out and get a little more sticky/stable if you let it dry out a bit.

I decided on P.160 as my next 3017 victim, and kicked things off this morning. About 30 seconds after applying the lather, I felt a little burning, then more and more. I rushed through a one pass shave only to find what looked like a sun burn beard! So, I'm one of the lucky ones allergic to the almond. Luckily, Cella leaves me unscathed. So, back to the drawing board in picking my next 3017 soap..

I'm really struggling with the Stirling ozark mountain over here, if i load the brush heavily i get a wet mess and if i load the brush very little it's fluffy and not protective at all.
Dry brush or wet brush no difference, boar or badger makes no difference.
The soap smells so good and i really want to use it because of that. Could you guys helo me with how to lather Stirling?

Squeeze the water from the brush and load heavily, then slowly add water. It should go from a thick paste to a cream. I would typically stop when it starts to look wet and has a shine to it. You won't get a bowl full of whipped cream but it will be good lather.
