What's new

My Guess... 3017

I've got one last shave with the Mudder Focker. For my next victim, I'm considering AOS NOS Sandalwood, AOS Sandalwood new formula, or RR Captain's Choice Bay Rum.

Gentlemen, what say you?

I just received 3 pucks of AOS tallow sandalwood. I've never used AOS tallow, but I have found the reformulated AOS soap to be pretty good. From a selfish POV, I'd like to see how AOS tallow goes for you. I probably won't touch mine until next fall.

Thanks, gents. I'll next submit RR Captain's Choice to my 3017 will.

I commented on Mudder Focker previously and my opinion has largely stayed the same. It is a very good soap and I am pleased to have experienced it. The best face feel that I've experienced so far. Scent is too sweet for my tastes. The mud introduces a slightly gritty feel - not a big deal. Not as slick as I'd like.

Prior to joining the 3017 thread, or even knowing what 3017ing was, I had been 3017ing a number of soaps and creams. I am losing track of what I have run through so I thought I'd get a running list going. The ranking (Snowman Enjoyment Factor) is based solely on my own selfish needs and has little to do with the quality of the product. For example B&M Nocturne is ranked a 1. B&M makes a fine product, but Nocturne sets my face on fire, thus, I will never purchase it again. The SER is a jumbled mess of everything that I care about in a good shaving soap or cream. I care little about how many shaves I get from a puck. I do care about if I like it and if I want to buy it again some day. Therein lies the reason I am getting a running total going as I 3017 product. I am growing old and senile and can no longer rely upon my memory alone. I've used many more soaps and creams than are on this list, but I haven't 3017 them. I have to say, 3017ing a product is the only true way of unlocking its secrets. I plan on revisiting many soaps I have used in years past but never gave it a chance to truly appreciate it.

...currently working through a small bit of Cella.

Interesting rankings, Snowman. I'm a fan of Mike's too.

Based on these rankings and the opinions of others I respect on this thread, I am definitely going to have to order some Haslinger when I finally use up what I have on hand.

I did break through the bottom of my Scottish Fine Soap today. The end is near. I'll just keep feeding the big badgers.

I'm 14 shaves in with Haslinger Schafmilch and it's coming along great. The lather on this soap is excellent and the scent is nice.

I am guessing maybe 6-7 more shaves when I'm finished with it. I want to try some of the other scents from Haslinger in the near future to compare it to Schafmilch. I'm thinking coconut since I like that scent alot.

Come one, come all to fix your gaze upon the hollow, empty shell of my beloved, long-lived Barrister & Mann Hallows!

She gave up the ghost after this morning's shave. There was just a very small amount in the bottom of the tub that broke all to pieces in my brush. It made a fine, albeit slightly chunky, final lather that left me satisfied at a job well done. I can now say that I've successfully completed a 3017 with a shave soap.

I'm now going to take a lap through some of my other soaps and creams before committing to another 3017 choice. I'm planning on starting something on my birthday, March 14th, and joining up with the guys over on the Spring thread.

Congrats, Cosmos! I'm surprised you burned through that much (visual assessment) soap in a quick period.

WTB : Hallows Jar ;-)

Haslinger coconut is fantastic. I really enjoyed it during spring/summer.

A Pi-Day birthday!?!

This is a big one too: 3.14.15

That makes 2015 the best year for Pi since 1592.

That last bit went super fast. It kinda all broke apart in tiny pieces that weren't really smooshing back into anything. I ended up putting it all in the palm of my hand to load it on the brush, since there was no way it was working in the tub for me. I ended up washing my hands and forearms with the tiny leftovers.

Don't worry, I am well aware of this, as well as everyone that knows me, who frequently remind me I tell them about it all the time[emoji1] Just this past week, I've begun teaching Area of a circle to my students, which for many is the first time seeing Pi. By the end of the lesson, the entire class had my birthday memorized, and the most mathematically inclined student in the class pointed out the extra 2 decimal places I get this year.

That may work. :001_cool:

I just put another 20g of ABCBA in my dish, which should take me to mid to late February. After that, I have no plans so a "Spring" soap may be in order.

I hope to be done with Cella by March 1. I would like to join the Spring is in the Air group but I need a ruling from you fine gentlemen. Does Haslinger Coconut qualify?

You never forget your first.

I feel a little bad. I've not finished my arko and I'm traveling shortly. Since its in a mug I'll not be taking it.
I'll be taking my PdP and starting it early.
it's like I'm cheating on arko.

Unless I can finish it off this weekend. Here's to trying harder!

I got moves like Jagger
SpikedLemon, I see no problem with you not carrying your mugged soap with you when travelling. 3017 isn't a contest or anything, it's about using up products while getting to learn them inside and out. Enjoy your PdP on your travels; Arko isn't the jealous type and will welcome you with open arms on your return.

I certainly hope to enjoy the PdP. I've been looking forward to it for a while now.

And, you're right, Arko probably isn't the jealous type: it knows that I love it. :)
