My Guess... 3017

My method (for now) is to alternate between soaps and creams. I can say that I think I prefer soaps to creams. There is just something relaxing and Zen-like to loading a puck and working it up into good lather for me.
I don't bowl lather creams, I use a finger to wipe a thin layer on my jawline from ear to ear, and then face lather. I learned that from an Indian barber in Saudi Arabia way back in ancient history during Desert Storm.

One shave left on my XXX, which will happen this evening after the Hallowe'en rush is done. The pic of the finished product would just be a plastic white cereal bowl, so no end-pic this time.

Like every whitetail deer is a trophy- every empty container is a trophy for the 3017 crowd. Sam you have to ask yourself.....what would Johnniegold do?

Buy more soaps? :001_rolle

Never hunted deer. Any animal you can carry without quartering is too small to hunt.

okay, okay. I get the picture...... and so will you. :tongue_sm

My tube of Coates Almond Cream is done. I bought a six-pack sample of the scents, and the almond was damaged in transit. I rescued what I could into a small Tupperware container. I think I got at least 75% of it. Lasted almost a month. Not daily shaving, but close to it. I wouldn't get it again, the scent seemed a bit meh to me. Guess I am not an almond scent fan. The performance was great though. I wonder how the other scents will be as I eventually get to them.
Tomorrow I start with ClassicShaving.com Rose scented soap. Way back in the day when I was into straights, Classic Shaving was one of the first on-line places to buy wet shaving supplies. I used their unscented pucks. Now, as I am a bit older and more refined, I will delve into their other scents. I also have the Lilac and Jasmine scents to get to some day.

Off the top of my head, here is my remaining inventory:
Classic Shaving Lilac
Classic Shaving Jasmine
Vintage Seaforth
Wilkinson blue tub
HTGAM CaD
HTGAM Lime
Mikes Barbershop - 2
Arko tub

Arko Stick - 2
Palmolive stick
Wilkinson stick

Coates - 5
Palmolive cream
Arko cream
Super-Max Cream

Mikes samples - 2 (Lime and Bay Rum)

05-29-2014 to 06-29-2014: Mikes Barbershop
06-30-2014 to 10-03-2014: Mitchell's Wool Fat
10-04-2014 to 10-30-2014: Coates Cream Almond
11-01-2014 to XX-XX-XXXX: Classic Shaving Rose Soap

Body Shop cream really did explode into lather, needed a lot of water. I think my 25mm synthetic might be so stiff it's working a lot of air into the lather so I'm going to try a brush with a bit more flex tomorrow.

My Biotique Palmyra croap has metamorphosed into a soft cream with regular use. It is now scoopable and a bit soupy in the centre. I need to load more heavily than I remember to get the lather I like, but once there it reminds me of Speick. Slick and creamy and very mildly scented. The post shave though is better with this cream.

I think I've just crossed the halfway mark with this tub.

@Bushhippi about a 100 pages back you had started a tub of Palmyra. Did you get around to finishing it?
I do so want to be 3017 ing my soaps, but got sidetracked with my sack of samples still knocking them off. I got half way through the tub but did not get soupy or anything weird. looking forward to 3017 the BBP very soon.

I like to start products on the first of the month. I've been on a Bay Rum kick lately so tomorrow I'll tear into a lovely Strop Shoppe Bay Rum. Any of you guys ever give this soap a go? It smells really similar to MW Bay Rum. I wish I had the 2 side by side. If it's not the same fragrance oil it's something really similar. Should be a lovely month and a half or so of shaves.

When you feel you are at 50% mark, you are actually at the 70% mark.the tub is smaller than you think it is.

Quoting an other member- it's a lot easier to tackle these as a group. So join in, sooner rather than later:001_smile.
The soupy bit resulted in some great lather today-

How do you infuse a hard soap puck like that? Without grating, that is.
I filled the top depression with Myrsol and let it soak in. Turned it over and did the same. Then I poked a bunch of holes in the bottom with a skewer stick and filled it with Myrsol again. Should be good to go today!

You guys and your modern Williams and Blue Willy's are bonkers.

But I can't wait to see and hear the results. To be fair, I don't think I've ever used it. I did try Vintage Williams for a while back and didn't care for it.

No scent of the Blue Wille, as this is the brush's first use this morning. Guess why? It was defunking (even though it had no funk) last night with Arko.

Lather was weaker than I am used to, but that shouldn't be a surprise with a new brush and a new soap. It'll take me a few days to dial it in. No complaints about the resulting shave though :thumbup1:

Ahh, Williams. Quickly reminded of its shortcomings as a shaving soap, but it still has enough going for it to enjoy the shave. Airy lather. There aren't many lighter lathers out there. It is slick enough, though, and I enjoy its clean, lemony scent. I did give it an injection of Agua de Limón beforehand, though. I usually do two passes then squeeze the lather from the brush for touchups. This is when you really feel the lack of density. There is little resistance to the lather leaving the knot. I'll load longer tomorrow. So many better soaps for just a little more coin.
