Thread: RAD kicked in!

    Default RAD kicked in!

Picked these up yesterday, some help identifying would be greatly appreciated. I know the far left one is a gillette adjustable with a date code H3. The two on the right I believe are NEWs? Neither have date codes or numbers on them. The second from the left I have no idea. I can make out the gillette logo on the head but no date codes or numbers that I can see. I'm sure some good cleaning would help out too.

I am a newbie, but the first one looks like a "Slim" Adjustable, and should have a date code to the bottom left above the handle when turned sideways. It should be between G-N.

Last looks like a Tech Ball End

The one on the far right appears to be an Old Type. The really corroded one is a Fat Handle Tech. The one on the far left is a Gillette Adjustable. The other open comb looks like a Gillette New variation of some sort.

I have a New like that one...the handle is about 1/2 the diameter of the Bar handle we see so often...I know not of the origin or name for it :(

    Edit: BTW..Nice haul!!

Yep, second from left is a fat handled tech. Most likely once gold plated, but by now the gold has worn or been corroded/scrubbed off and it's basically copper plated. Cleaned up, it should end up looking like so:

    Nice purchases!

thanks guys, now I guess the next question is what to clean with? I've read the sticky already but really didn't help for which is best for each of the four.

The second from left is a thin handled NEW. I keep hearing about how rare they are, but in the last week, since I became aware of them, I've seen at least 4. One is coming in a lot I just got off dbay.

Use the scrubbing bubbles/hot water/pipe cleaners/toothbrush and paste to clean at first. The last one looks like a gold plated Old type. If so, don't go any further. Be extremely cautious with any polish on gold razors, or any gold that's left that you want to keep.

With the others, you can use a polish. You can be as aggressive as you like on the ones that are already down to brass. Slightly more caution is called for with the nickel adjustable. It's not easy to wear through nickel with polish, but it's not always impossible.

I use metalwax for most razors. Sometimes, when the finish is already completely gone and I'm polishing brass, I'll start with a cheaper polish like NOX-7. This NEW looked worse than that fat handled Tech when I got it.
