Default What I don't get about some of you guys..

When some of you guys don't like this or that product, it comes across as if you hate it with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns.

It's kind of.. Jr. High if you ask me. Maybe it is that "team loyalty" that some guys get into which I've never really understood.. (Michigan sucks! Broncos Suck! Yankees Rule!! Grunt!! Grunt!! Snort!! Snort!! etc, etc..)

Either some of you are guilty of hyperbole to a near obscene level or you really do take some of these things a little too seriously..

And tomorrow I'm shaving with my Mach 3, Burma Brush, Williams Soap and Pinaud Lilac Vegetal cuz that's how I roll..

This is like those monks beating themselves with whips for the sake of others. Thanks! Now I don't have to use a Mach 3. The rest I use on a fairly regular basis.

I assume you are probably referring to the extreme hatred some of us show towards Williams. For me, it is great fun to hate on Williams, I do it for my amusement.

I find it very amusing that with the multitude of superior options available (some for just a little more money) that anyone would willing punish themselves with trying to get a low cost, foul smelling product to lather/ work at all.

I get but one shave a day, and seven shaves a week. Life is too short to waste shaves on Williams.

I reserve my hatred mostly for cheaply-made, over-hyped, corporate products, anything that fits the model Nancy Boy describes on their own website about most mainstream grooming products:

"up to 90 cents of every dollar devoted to marketing and packaging versus 10 cents that actually goes into the bottle"

I suppose I shouldn't get too hung up on this, because in our industrial culture, one would have to go to great lengths to avoid mass-produced products, and thinking about it too much could drive one to distraction. Nevertheless, I have a general distaste for any product - grooming-related or otherwise - when it is blatantly apparent that I'm paying primarily for the company's attempts to convince me that the product is worth buying, rather than for the company's efforts to make the product itself worth buying. Nowhere is this pattern more officious, however, than in designer scents, where cheaply-made, horrible-smelling, synthetic crap is put into expensive bottles, emblazoned with the name of some celebrity or clothing designer who knows zero about scent blending, and hawked for inflated sums to a brainwashed customer base that falls for the hype. It wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't have to smell the lemmings who wear this dreck - but I do, and yeah, it pisses me off.

So, should the need arise, a week of shaving with a battery powered Fusion would be acceptable penance for an incident poor moral or social judgement?

    Assuming I got caught?

I've often wondered this too. However, for me a product either works or it burns my face with the intensity of a thousand suns. I've yet to meet a product I'm so so about. It either works well for me, or I can't use it because of irritation and burning. That's why I like tallow soaps (but not DR Harris), because they don't chemically burn me.

Well someone had to quote it.

Seriously, I don't *think* I'm that way. If a product, like Williams Soap works great for me, then there's no point in arguing forever with others who hate it. If something doesn't work for me, I'm open to the possibility that I'm using it wrong, particularly if other people swear by it.

This place wouldn't be nearly as much fun, though, if people didn't like to argue about these things.

    Yea! Somebody understands me!

Somebody's nuts. I don't know whether it's me or them, but somebody is definitely nuts. I just wished I knew, so I'd know, you know?
