  1. Default Would It Be Worth It?

A nearby antique store has what appears to be a very new-looking Red Tip in a very new-looking Ranger Tech case for $45. I have not examined the razor closely, but it is very shiny, soap scum free, and seems to have 100% of the paint on the knob. I have not seen the outside of the case either, but the inside is pristine. It has been sitting in this store for several months now and, unfortunately, the seller seems to be a little clued-in about vintage Gillette razors because s/he correctly identified the year of manufacture by the date code, which s/he wrote on the tag (B2, 1956) -- and thus my $20 offer was shot down with extreme prejudice.

IMHO, pristine red tip in the proper case is a $45 item. Pristine red tip without the proper case is closer to $35. The extra ten bucks, however, in a really nice ranger tech case, could be worth it in case you come across a caseless ranger tech, or want to sell it on the BST to cover your difference. I'd do it.

I agree, its in the ballpark, not a "Score" but I have a feeling if you don't snap it up you'll regret it.

That used to happen to me all the time. I would see something I really liked, and pass by it, then go back later to get it only to find it gone.
I'm older now, and have learned to get it on the first visit.

I can't be of much help on your question, but just out of curiosity, is that in an antique shop in Old Town Clovis of California? I saw something exactly like what you described in one. I don't remember the date code, but a nice looking Red Tip in what looked to me like a Ranger Tech case for $45 sounds exactly like what I remember.

Considering the sum of its parts, I'd get it.

Bingo! Give this man a cigar!

Duh! I forgot I was asking the "band o' enablers" here -- where is that "razors anonymous" website?

Okay, I think I will be making a pit stop on the morrow...

Old Town Clovis was a gold mine. If you haven't spent time in the other shops, you should. I picked up quite the haul in Clovis just before Christmas (a Toggle, Fat Boy, Slim, Single Ring, 40s Style SS, and a Lady's Gillette), but left much, much more than I took. In that shop alone, there were probably another 10 razors. Best of luck ...

You're not whistling Dixie here either -- it's more like a platinum mine. I have pulled Fat Boys, Slims, Red Tips, Super Speeds (yes, plural), a Toggle, both short and long handle Super Adjustables, a silver-plated Tuckaway, a Norfolk Chromium like this one, and just today, the little guy pictured below. Most of the gold plating was gone, so I took it down to the brass -- which I may re-plate later.
