Cool MWF and Gold Dollar = cloud 9 dfs

Hey everyone. I just had my third shave with MWF and my first shave with my gold dollar straight from Rup Razor. I did definitely roll the edge by stropping it incorrectly when I first got it.

The MWF cool tap water lathering method worked great, and though the lather was cool, it didn't bother me. I've never noticed hot lather feeling great past the first pass.

Anyway, It took about 20 minutes, I did a 3-pass, and got a DFS! BBS in a few spots, but a bit patchy. It's at least as good as the DE shaves I've gotten recently, and maybe even with less irritation, but we'll find out in a few hours.

    A few things I learned:
-Wow. The angle that worked for me was about 15 degrees. About one spine thickness from my skin.
-Oh my chin! Now I understand the problem. It's such a small area touching the razor that it's easy to nick yourself. The nicks healed by the end of my third pass though, good thing I took so long

Has anyone heard of sliding a straight? One of the barbers I talked to recommended I do, and I looked at him like he was crazy.

    Anyway, I'm off to breakfast.
    Happy Shaving
    William

PS I did the full hot water, hot towel, lather on face, massage, hot towel, re-lather beard prep, and I finished up with Witch hazel, then my blend of WH, glycerin, and old spice, then a shower. I even took pictures. w00t

Wilkinson blades - Sharp doesn't have to hurt. AOS+Williams= Dirt cheap Superlather.

I believe the technique to use with a straight is called scything.

Sitting on my camera while my desktop PC is being a PITA. -grumble-

And thanks for the link to the scything action. I think I'll wait a while for #2 though that looks a bit too adventurous for me so far.

Whoo! I notice that the straight's smooth patches look different from the DE's smooth patches.

I believe that you made a wise decision. As you progress, those techniques will naturally become a part of your progress. For the meantime, I think you are better off going North and South.
