Gillette G-series Army (1918)?

Howdy all,

Sorry no pics just yet (I've got a crappy camera and pics of shiny metal don't turn out so well), but I've got what seems to be a g-series Gillette 3-piece (old style)--except that it says "Property of U.S. Army" and has no Gillette markings, but for the "PAT NOV 15:04" on the bottom of the barrel.

I know the J-series are WWI issue, but this seems to be a 1918 Army contract (or suchlike).

Any ideas or info would be appreciated.

It's in good shape BTW--cracked handle (of course) but not bad.

Thanks

Achim's site has a 1918 Old Type that seems to have the markings you describe.
If you zoom in to about 400 percent you can just read it on the bottom of the blade plate in the picture.

That looks like the one, though it was the G serial number that threw me off--the wiki database makes it seem as if only the J-series were for the military.

In any case, it's a nice razor, and in great shape despite the crack, so I'll count it as a win for under $10.

Wow, 10 bucks! I'd say it's a deal. Congrats on the pick up!
But you know - If there are no pictures, it never happened!!!

Soon ... I swear ...

I've really got to get a better camera, or become a better photographer, because I've got all sorts of stuff I need to post pics of, and I keep putting it off because it's such a headache trying to get decent ones ... particularly where logos/markings are involved.

Thanks Phil,

Yes, it´s a Property U.S. Army with G number from 1918. The outer shipper is wrong, it´s a civilian shipper - I must correct it :closedeye
