Default My shave with canned gel and Xtreme3.

So today I shaved with canned gel and my Wilkinson/Schick Xtreme3© for the first time since April 2006. The end result was satisfying, the experience was not.

I firmly believe that simply learning to shave with a DE improves one’s skills to the level he can achieve great results with whatever techno-cartridge is available on the market. Of course, there are exceptions in that the design of cartridge razors is inherently flawed for people with ingrown hairs (I think of Marty here). I, however, don’t have this problem.

I also noticed there are some areas where I can get much better results with my AC. I know it all depends on our specific facial features, but doing a pass against the grain on my moustache area with a triple-edge is just begging for razor burn. With a blade-buffing against the grain with the AC, I get better results faster and with less care.

On the other areas, I can get a good, close shave.

My conclusion is the most important aspect is a good preparation and a damned brush teasing a superior soap. Water is your friend. Also, applying cannel gel or foam with your hand is just Cro-Magnonly gross.

    God bless D.R. Harris.

    Lyrt,

I have to agree with you here. I have found that the pattern of my facial growth and sensitivity of skin makes DE shaving a painful experience. I have reverted back to commercial cartridge blades... I get a better shave with fewer passes and less irritation. However, my experience with a DE (thanks to this forum) has introduced me to a better method of shaving, which includes proper preperation, brush use, product selection and taking more time to shave.

While I have ditched the DE shave, I am still using proper shave creams, finer badger brushes, good ASB and better techniques thanks to the fellas on this board.

+1. And all the other purveyors of traditional quality shaving goods through the world.

I have tried returning to Sensor and mach3 since starting DE shaving. For several reasons it just is not as satisfying. My skin feels more traumatised and looks it too. My stubble is longer, yet strangely the tips of the hairs feel softer (I presume this is due to angle of blade attack.) The actual event of shaving is dull; it lacks the olfactory assault of rose, lavender, sandalwood, almond, avocado, lime, etc. The only advantage is that I can get under my nose and next to my facial scar much easier with a cartridge designed for knuckle-heads.

I have a free fusion waiting for a trial run. It might wait a very very long time indeed.
